Yurei, are they breeder ferrets? Nope, mill ferrets. The show around here only allows mill ferrets into their mini show actually. It's kind of a "be not ashamed of what they are, they're wonderful animals too even without the breeding" sort of informal show mentality. It's very nice. Zar'thun won second place last year, a lot of the people there seem to be feeding better quality kibbles but I think we were the only raw feeders. The diet is the proof.

Does your shows not follow the AFA particulars of all ferrets will be complete and up to date on all vaccines (distemper and rabies....annual) and that they will have had an ADV test within the last 6 months? ciao

They only require distemper, they don't say how long it has to have been since the last shot. Even if they did require ADV testing no one would be able to go, none of the vets around here either know what it is or will/can do the test, I've asked before. It's not a real strict or proper show anyway, not run by the AFA. It's a couple of rescues that hold events to raise money for the rescue basically.

It is fun! Lots of games to play with the ferrets, people aren't real catty or snobby like I imagine they are at real shows. Worst thing you have to worry about catching is fleas, ear mites or ECE I figure, and since they're all MF ferrets, they've prob all been exposed already.

Okay, so just to get this straight: I have been vaccinating my ferts for distemper. Kyra has been over 4 years, Mika over 3 years and Bear over 3 years. Do I need to continue to vaccinate against distemper? I stopped vaccinating against rabies when Kyra had a reaction. Her neck swelled to like twice it's regular size and scared the poop out of me! I figure mine don't come in contact with rabies anyways, and they have all had a couple shots as is.

Personally, I would never vaccinate any of these little ones again. If you're concerned, get titres done (not that many actually understand the concept) to see if there is indeed an immunity mounted ciao

IMO, given that they had a reaction to one, I'd not vaccinate for anything again.
