Can you keep an eye on how much they are consuming? Liver/organ should be a max of two ounces a week each per ferret.

Today's menu was some HT ground pheasant with some NV medallions mixed in. Everyone was quite happy with it.
So with the menu I posted should I not have any extra meals of organs since they are getting CR pretty much for every feeding? Is there enough organs in the CR to not supplement?
And just a side note...I had the kids out in their playpen on the deck for a little while to get some fresh air and enjoy a nice spring day....and their coats just shined (shown?) in the sunlight!! They looked beautiful! And I noticed that Riley's coat which as baby seemed like it was almost fried on the ends...sort of just a rough coat...is beautifully silky now. Not sure if his coat was just like that cause was his baby coat or what. I don't remember my girls have a sort of fried baby coat...

You know something- I think that would be the better idea. You can still keep adding some heart and some bone to chew, but when commercial raw is a minimum of 10 meals a week, then no, I really don't think they need any more. So- how are they taking everything you are giving? And would you do an updated menu minus the extra liver/organ.

They take everything that I offer as a soup/pudding really well. They aren't picky about protein sources. I do try to mix in more of the hare today grinds when I can so that they get a little bit bigger pieces to chew on than the NV.
When I am on my computer I will give you an updated menu without extra organs.

Okay great Do you want to work at getting them all to take something like necks or wings for dental benefits a couple times a week?

I do! Riley and Stevie do already take wings/thighs and some small bones from rabbit when I get it whole. Sammie and Milo haven't yet...but with some of the Hare Today grinds there are some small pieces of bone and if it is mixed in their soup they will eat it.

Sorry for not getting to this sooner...I almost always just access the boards through my phone or tablet...which is convenient but a pain to type anything long with. So the menu for this week is: I have a defrosted a baggie of ground mutton from HT and NV medallions beef, venison & duck as well as some ground turkey from grocery store. So the following is some combination of any and all of this. And 'dry' just means the ground not in soupie form. I try to leave some sort of chunks of something for Riley and Stevie so they don't forget that they actually each chunks With a little pumpkin added daily and a little bit of either salmon oil or ferretone. Sun am: NV + ground from HareToday (HT) Sun pm: leftover from am + more HT added / ground HT dry Mon am: NV + ground HT + ground turkey Mon pm: leftover from am + more HT added / chicken wings & ground HT dry Tues am: NV + ground HT Tues pm: left over from am + more HT added / chicken wing & ground HT dry Wed am: NV + ground HT Wed pm: leftover from am + more HT added / duck gizzard + chicken thigh Thurs am: NV + ground HT Thurs pm: leftover from am + more HT added / chunks heart Fri am: NV + ground HT Fri pm: leftover from AM + pureed liver & heart / chicken thigh + 'dry' ground HT dry Sat am: NV + ground HT Sat pm: leftover from am + more HT added / pork chunks & chicken wing

Okay, so how big now are the chunks that Riley and stevie are eating? And to get Sammie and Milo eating them, you can start with just adding two or three tiny slivers to their CR serving. For this it will be best to do when you can watch them eating. Give them a much smaller amount than you normally would, maybe a tsp of CR with those tiny slivers added. Make them no bigger than the crescent on your pinkie nail. If they don't take the slivers with the CR, add about another tsp of the grind. Just keep doing this over the next while until they eat those slivers, then add two or three more.

Riley and Stevie will eat pretty good size chunks...when they are in the mood:-* They are probably about an inch or so cubed...maybe a little bigger. And will take a chicken wing that is just cut at the joints.
And Sammie and Milo will eat smallish chunks in their soup. The Hare Today grinds are not very uniformly ground so as long as it is in their soup the will eat it. If I just put a bowl of chunks in which I do before I serve soups they just smell...possibly lick any oil I have drizzled on it...but that is about it.
Especially with Sammie being kinda of on the small size I don't feel too good about trying the tough love approach cause she can't stand to lose too much weight. And Milo has dropped a little bit of weight too...from like 1.15 to 1.10...hoping it is just spring weight loss.

Alright Since they(Sammie and Milo) will take the hare today mixed in the soup try increasing the amount if hare today mixed with the soup until it's all hare today. Then start adding in bits of meat that are larger than the grind , but only by a wee bit.

Very exciting!!! Sammie just gnawed on a chicken wing bone?!?!?! Granted I happened to have rubbed some ferretvite on it but she was gnawing on the meat and shaking it!! And that was after doing a really good job on her bowl of soup...almost ate the whole thing! Not sure anything will come of this...but might just have to try this again! Also...I am trying to increase the HT over the NV...so far have gotten to about a little more than half HT...if it gets too much more than that they start turning up their noses. But will keep at it. On other news...I happened to go to the pet store with my bf who was getting mice for his snakes...and wouldn't you know it there is an adorable little boy there They never have little boys it is always girls. I did resist for tonight... but he is oh so adorable!!!

Today the kids had soup that was almost entirely HT grinds...although ran out of the mutton and next up was quail which is a more even grind...not too many big chunks....but everyone ate a good amount today. I offered soups 3 times today just to try and get some extra into them. They all did a good job...despite Riley being the class clown and burrowing under the towel bothering everyone and dumping soups over...big doofus!;D

;D I've got one like that too ;D Okay- with every meal for now, offer the chopped up wings mixed in. Let me know how they do The idea is to get them all accepting bone in meats. As they accept them, you'll start chopping less and less. To begin with, segment and chop them up really well.
