This was Cakez reply in our switching thread. Just thought I'd share here for those who are following Meeko.
Alrighty, ill get to the food ij another post, just got back from the vet and need to chew and screw to work! Amongst this huge blizzard fun...
So the vet did do 3 separate skin scrapings only to find simple round cocci bacteria, no threat, no mites, no fungus, so....his skin is obviously still absolutely messed up.
She prescribed us amox. Fot possible bacterial growth... Yay trying this again for the 4th time now..lol, she didn't want to do the urine analysis on his condition but she does want a AUS which I find to be ridiculous, but she won't prescribe lupron without that or the panel test, I hate this sometimes.. Because ultimately its poor meeko who suffers the most. She said she's afraid of side effects from the lupron without proper tests first.
So off to give him amoxy and ill update after work if I can make ot alive in this blizzard....

Let me dig up some vet info for you to give her. There are NO side effects if he's not adrenal. I'll also dig up a phone number for her to call.

No there aren't any other vets in the area.... but this one is looking in to it... but she would like to do an ultra sound before she does anything.... are there any thoughts on this? is it something that we should allow? The ultra sound is close to 300$ plus the Lupron... do you think that it is worth it? or do we just go for the Lupron? Because we have another appointment set for this Wednesday for the ultra sound, and they want us to leave Meeko there for about 4-5 hours... which is obviously difficult due to the fact that he is on a raw diet, and i honestly dont feel to comfortable with just leaving him there to begin with... ... i just dont know what else to do... my heart hurts just thinking of the stuff that he is going through.... he has gotten more lethargic and hasn't been eating on his own... i have to force feed(finger feed) him

oh yea and the urine analysis that she wanted to do so bad... no one said anything about it today... and she never pursued anything... should we proceed or just drop it... Meeko's health is obviously declining and getting worse, are we bad pet parents if we try to peruse the treatments and demanding the adrenal treatment with out the tests? I mean...finances are somewhat of an issue, but not largely...just 300$ test for the Ultra Sound...and the way I understand those is it just outlines what could be the cancerous growth...I mean really? It's been a tough journey with him and it's so hard because we think ( with ALL of your all help.. ) that he's adrenal..and she continues to want to test prior to putting him on a treatment, I just feel horrible demanding it at the fear of being ignorant. Thank you all~ Storm is realy getting bad here...over 5in. already!

My response in the mentoring thread. Thought I'd share it here too in case anyone wants to weigh in on it.
An ultrasound to check for tumors on the adrenal gland is worthless IMO. The adrenal glands can be diseased without tumors being present/visible yet. The US *might* show if there is anything else going on though. If they are going to do the US, not see a tumor, and refuse to give him Lupron though that is both a waste and counterproductive. If they want to see if something else might be going on in his body with the US, then it could possibly be helpful. Just my two cents.
As for the Lupron, there are no negative side effects if the ferret is not adrenal, it just won't help the symptoms at all if adrenal is not the cause. Remember, the Lupron must be done in a MINIMUM 3 month trial or it will cause a hormone surge (this may be the "negative side effects" your vet is worried about); also it takes 1-2 months for Lupron to start taking effect.

I would absolutely push for the Lupron WITHOUT testing, and I would at least ask her again about the Urinalysis, it could be that she forgot. Vets are human after all.
I'll say it again (for your vet not you lol) there are NOT negative side effects for Lupron if the ferret doesn't have adrenal (UNLESS only 1-2 months are given in which case there is a resultant hormone surge that can cause more harm than good if the injection is not done for a min of 3 months). Testing for adrenal is NOT 100% accurate and is prone to false positives. If he doesn't have adrenal the only thing hurt is your wallet and his symptoms won't improve any. If he DOES have adrenal, the injections could REALLY help him.

Alrighty all...well unfortunately they're closed now anf most likely for the rest of the weekend because of this storm were having. But she did say she'd call us Monday to update and talk to us about the US and what not, so maybe then I'll nudge at the fact that I possibly would like the treatment of Lupron first, the other issue with the US is that the person they have that comes in JUST to do the US doesn't have a 100% schedule, rather comes in between 8AM and 12PM so...I would have to drop poor Meeko off and Pick up whenever they call, I HATE that idea period...it doesn't comfort me at ALL considering he's not eating as it is without being forced to...and his overall health is very poor... so I might just ask for the injection... the whole dropping off just doesn't appeal to myself nor my girlfriend, she's actually quite taken back at dropping off in his condition which I agree..it is tough since I really am not a fan of their technicians...they ask such silly questions after looking at him and listening to what I have to say. Thank you all again~ so tough...

Cakez what state/province are you in? If you're getting the blizzard too you must be fairly close by. I wouldn't waste my time on an ultra sound unless they're hoping to find a sign of some other cancer, it's not a useful test for adrenal since you can't generally see any problems on the glands.
What litter do you use for your boy? What bedding? What detergent for his bedding or any clothes he comes into contact with?

I'm in worcester MA. (western area) and yeah it's slammin hard outside..prob. another ~2in. for approx. 6 where I'm at..hope you guys weather it ok!
As far as bedding, litter etc. we've tried to keep EVERYTHING the same for him even prior to him becoming ill, so litter's been the same (a yesterday's news type pellet) same with bedding and cube he sleeps, also same cage and cleaning solutions.
So the idea I'm getting is IF we can postpone the US which in our financial way this month would HELP alot...but I have no problem doing it...but I'm really more interested in investing in his Lupron treatment...so I guess until I hear from her when they re-open...it's just a matter of keeping up with the amox.
On a side note he seems more sleepy which I'm associating with the amox. and he's not eating NEARLY as much as before...so I've resorted to having him hand feed off my finger and have to kind of hold him there to keep him eating...he doesn't eat much but I'm hoping as long as I can keep him eating he can pull through..
Also because of the amox. treatment I'm guessing because of his pre-existing diarrhea we should look into a pro-biotic hard! Any suggestions? And should I start ASAP?
Thank you all~
