Losing the battle with hairballs

So, despite my dosing them with pumpkin every fews days or so my little DEW pushed out a MASSIVE hairball two days ago. I started dosing the other two with pumpkin and laxative to find that my other little girl ALSO had a huge hairball and my boy had a smaller one.

So now we're all on laxatone and pumpkin until I'm sure everyone is cleared out. *sigh* I'll probably up their dosing of pumpkin/squash during shedding season from now on.

I add pumpkin to the diet daily. I coat their meats with a pumpkin+water mix - kinda simulating the fur/feathers on the animal. Once I get more olive oil, I'll start coating their meats in a light layer of that, too.

I would make pumpkin and olive oil/fish oil an every day thing.

I feed the olive oil dily.

Are your kids eating bone? That tends to help as well. WI Periodically feed ground egg shell i with my ground mix since that seems to drag fur out as well.

They get ground egg shell, but only two of them eat bone semi-reliably. I've been working olive oil into their meals but they don't have a taste for it yet.

Mine didn't either. What I had to do was mix the olive oil with a bit of fish oil so they'd start getting accustomed to the taste and texture of the olive oil since it's a good bit "thicker".

If the shedding is getting ahead of you and your guys are having problems, I would suggest brushing your guys. The shed this season seems to be quite extensive and I'm finding that even with brushing my guys are loosing a substantial amount of hair this year. My guys get pumpkin daily in their diet (plus they eat prey). The olive oil also helps. Like Sherry, I mix it with fish oil (my guys are spoiled brats...they won't eat the olive oil on it's own and I'm a total woos )
