I tried searching this subject but couldn't find Canadian costs...my ferret is currently on the Lupron injections monthly and they are not working anymore. Her vulva is so huge it's the size of a marble and she's 3/4 bald now. My vet is getting in the deslorelin implant from Australia (hopefully within the month) and she has quoted me $600+ for it....there's no other vets around that have it in. Plus I'm already driving 3 hours to my vet monthly now. I know $600 isn't right...anyone in Canada get the des implant and what is the cost for you? I'm in Alberta. Thanks

Try messaging Heather. I know she's been using deslorelin for a while and might have an extra.

That is insane, and an absolute rip off A number of Canadians use it(still waiting for it myself), and I believe average is $150-$200!!!

Ya I thought the average was $150-$200 also....my vet said the des implant cost will roughly work out the same as the Lupron in the long run....which I know isn't right. I'm just so frustrated because my ferret NEEDS this implant soon...I don't know what else to do for her

Definitely message Heather. She could have an extra implant at her vet that she could spare.

I just messaged her, thank you I don't think my vet would use one of hers if she had a spare one tho. But it's worth a try!

I just responded to your pm but I will post here too. It costs me about $100 to have them brought in and we bring them in the amounts of 10 at a time. I believe there are some extra but my vet also works with show dogs and they use this to either put off ovulation or to stimulate ovulation depending on how you use the product. I don't know how many she has left, but she will be ordering in more because I will need some shortly. She keeps them permanently in stock. ciao

So what would the shipping be to bring in from Australia? $100? I am just getting as much info as I can so i can tell my vet that I'm doing my research and I know the prices as well! Thank you all who have responded. You've been such a big help!

The shipping is most of my cost according to my vet. ciao

The shipping is what makes one single implant so expensive. Cause otherwise the implants themselves are only $55 canadian. But I order in 10's too. That is what makes it affordable. I pay about $600-$700 for 10 implants. Even one implant shouldn't cost you more than $200. They are just gouging trying to charge $600 for one implant.

I only have to pay for them as I use them because my vet also uses them for other people. ciao

Stinker1- I was just reading smoogy's experience with des. She paid about $260+ tax(includes vet check), and she's in Edmonton. It would be WORTH it to drive the 4hrs each way at the price you were quoted ;D

Especially if you are already driving 3 hours! What's an extra hour each way when you are saving $400?

Stinker1, I go to Park's Vet Clinic in Sherwood Park. If you want a very knowledgeable vet, ask for Dr. Kwantes. He's usually very busy, and you have to book him weeks in advance, but he's pretty big in the vet community. I highly recommend him (That, or Dr. Bousquet and Dr. Meckelborg are great too )
