thanks for the link. i think i'll go to one of those package stores first and see if i can get some of this. the kid at starbucks was like "uh, Miss, that'll be $4.75, please!" i think he made a face at the person that was making the coffee.

you can find that at a craft store or maybe even the birthday section of some stores. also think easter grass. its similar and sounds crunchier and the day after easter it will be very very cheap

I've got some material for a dig box I haven't yet tried out. A client kept all the packing material for me that her dishes were shipped to her in . It's looks almost like straw, but it's artificial, and packed really tightly. I've got to pull it apart and see what it's really like. If it's ok to use, i've got enough for 3 large dig boxes ;D

GREAT IDEA!!! That stuff is available in party supply and craft stores like hobby lobby. It's not all that cheap when sold in the smaller bags....you might be able to order some online i bulk? the cost of shipping will not be that high - it's light and fluffy - and dust-free

I'm going to an arts and crafts store today to see if i can find it. I was thinking maybe I can just ask the people at Starbucks to give me some. . I'd rather get the shredded brown paper (that is what was in the Starbucks basket) . One of our cats ate Easter bunny grass and it gave her a blockage. That was an expensive surgery. Don't want to go through that again.

Your CAT ate the easter grass??? OMG, I can't imagine what would have possessed your cat to make her eat that stuff. Glad she came through it ok, though!

I've definitely seen this stuff at Target in the gift wrapping section! It would be a lot safer that the easter basket grass... good idea!
Sherry - Some cats will eat anything much like a billy goat. My sister's cat has eaten (and passed) hair bands, strings of all varieties and tinsel. He is also a notorious bra-strap eater.

yes. our cat needed a surgery because she ate that green shiny easter bunny grass. my friend's cat also recently needed a surgery because he ate ribbons. those thin ribbons that you use for gift wrapping and that you can curl with a pair of scissors. the vet came out with this little ball of colorful ribbons. poor maxwell. he almost died. we had to stop putting tinsel on the christmas tree because our cats would eat it and then throw up little mounds of tinsel.

Swallowing ribbon-like stuff is pretty common in cats, I think. We had an expensive holiday vet visit awhile back because one of the cats ate curling ribbon... I think I posted about it on the old forum, actually. He'll also eat plastic bags or other small random plastic things, and will occasionally chew his back nails too short. Luckily so far he's been able to vomit or pass everything, but it's a constant worry for me. The vet said if we really wanted we could put him on kitty Valium and see if it changes the behavior, which could be a low-level OCD. Now we shut him in a cat-proof room at night, try not to leave anything out on the counters, and give him chew treats. It's frustrating sometimes to find toys/treats/beds that are safe for dogs, cats, AND ferrets...

Yeah cats are just as bad as ferrets when it comes to eating things they are not supposed to.
