First off, please don't flame me for asking this question. I love my babies and this is just crunch time.
I need to know if it will hurt them to eat California Naturals Kangaroo & Lentil blend dog food from now until Friday. That is three days, and that's when I get paid. I miscalculated the amount of food I'd need to have on hand to get through the two weeks between paychecks. I'm already kicking myself, I don't need anyone else to do it, please!
If anyone has an answer and can help me, please, answer quick! I'm at my wits' end here and this is ALL I have in the house, no hamburger, we're a little hungry too.
Thanks in advance for the help! sorry to post in emergency but I didn't know where else to get a quick response...

I suppose it's better than letting them starve. What's in it? ciao

this is the ingredient list. Kangaroo Red Lentils Green Lentils Peas Sunflower Oil (Preserved with Mixed Tocopherols, a Source of Vitamin E) Flaxseed Pea Fiber Dicalcium Phosphate Natural Flavors Calcium Carbonate Salt DL-Methionine Minerals (Zinc Proteinate, Iron Proteinate, Manganese Proteinate, Copper Proteinate, Calcium Iodate) Vitamins (Vitamin E Supplement, Betaine Hydrochloride, Vitamin A Supplement, Niacin Supplement, Calcium Pantothenate, Beta Carotene, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Riboflavin, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Thiamine Mononitrate, Biotin, Folic Acid) It's supposed to be grain free, so that's a plus, but I'm worried about blockages from the lentils? on the other hand, as you say, it's better than letting them starve. We mashed up our last leftovers from last night for them tonight. Thanks again guys I'm just in a real bind due to a little stupidity last payday.

I don't think it'll kill them or anything. At least it has meat in it... Obviously really not ideal, but there are morons who feed ferrets bread and milk and they somehow survive for ages, and my housemate fed her ferret wet cat food that had vegetables in it and stank, so three days shouldn't be too bad. Expect some upset stomachs though.
No eggs in the house? Egg yolk could be a meal. Tins of tuna?
I'm sorry you're in this situation. Can I recommend that you start putting money aside for your ferrets so that you have some money for them in situations like this or their health emergencies?

Used the last of the eggs on dinner tonight. Had quite a bit put by but had the city give us some unexpected fines about a week ago... it's funny how everything happens at once, isn't it? We do try to keep quite a bit put back for emergencies. Like I said, with the fines... it's gone Gotta start back from scratch... Thanks for the quick responses, guys. Really appreciate it.

That mix isn't really good for dogs much less ferrets That being said, if you've not got anything protein in the house that they would eat other than this....it's better than nothing. The lentils, peas could be hazardous to the ferret's health in the long run so be very careful. This is a food that has had it's protein levels boosted by vegetable matter. The lentils will raise the protein levels to make it acceptable for the consumption of dogs (it's how they read proteins, it doesn't mean its good for them) but the protein levels would be too low to be even classified as good dog food if it wasn't for these vegetables ciao

mm, I meant a specific ferret fund that you do not touch unless it's for ferrets. However I understand that you probably didn't mean to touch it and then the fines came up and you had no other money to use.
Any friends or family you could 'borrow' meat or other protein from? You've probably already thought of that but just making sure.
Also for future reference, kangaroo is a very lean meat, ferrets need fat in their diet too.

We had to give a turkey hot dog once when the meat I had just bought went off in the fridge. Upset stomach for a day but the meat is organic and they did fine.
Is it possible to even buy plain canned chicken or something? Or borrow a can? That stuff's pretty cheap I think, like a dollar. You could check out your local food bank..they surely have tuna and some food for you as well.

Thank you all.
Hubby tore up the kitchen and found some baby food so they'll have that for tomorrow and maybe the next day. Situation was not QUITE so dire as I had been led to believe but it's still pretty bad. After hearing y'all's comments I'm holding off on the kibble until it's an absolute necessity. I can get into one of the rescues on Thursday and get some kitten food if nothing else. Thanks so much for helping me calm down, and giving me good advice, guys. I really appreciate it.

I'm guessing she's Australian since there's kangaroo meat in the dog food? (or do you guys get kangaroo in dog food as well) Which state are you in, maybe I can find some resources.

No....got to be Australia....we don't get 'roo meat unless we pay a fortune for it. Used to be able to get 'roo meat but at $15/20 lbs you're not going to feed it to the dogs . I bought some for my dogs years ago and was horrified when they wouldn't eat it . I've not seen it in years ciao

Tundra, am in Indiana. Have a couple of rescues close that run food pantries for the animals. Just can't get to one until Thursday when it's open. That's actually where I got the stuff I'm asking about.
Baby food is gerber second stage chicken, they love it. Didn't realize we had a couple jars left after making duck soup the last time. Hubby found them in the back of one of the cabinets and checked the dates, they're still good.
Thanks again. Y'all are the most helpful folks!
