We live in the Comox Valley and would like to purchase our first ferret. Cannot seam to find any breeder's in the area. Does anyone know of a person who has a young male or female for sale . And great site by the way. One of the best information sites out on the net. Thanks for your time Laura

It's really the wrong time of year to get a breeder's ferret unless you're willing to take one of last year's kits and even most of those would be placed by now. Some might have made decisions on some hold backs and willing to sell at this time but it is a good time to put your name in on this years kits. What state are you in....sorry, don't seem to recognise the name mentioned. ciao

Not sure if you are interested in rescues, but you could likely google for some near you. A number of breeders won't sell to first time owners, since breeder ferrets are a whole new ball game compared to farm ferrets.

There do not appear to be any rescues on Vancouver Island, have been searching the web for sometime now, have left messages at all BC SPCA on the island. Im always up for rescues as that is where are dog came from. And Im in my 50s , owned ferret's when I was in my 30s in Ontario. So not new to the game, just been so long and we didnt have the internet back then to get so much information on the proper nutrition of these animals..... that is why I love your site its so informative. I wish I new half of what I have learned here... 20 years ago.

Don' t feel too bad, 20 years ago much of the research hadn' t been done. I can get better, research based information here than I can from most vets in my area.

There is a ferret rescue in Nanaimo (VI Ferret Rescue)you can find it on FB,but she has no ferrets at the moment. Not sure how much luck you'll have from the SPCA. There really isn't any breeders around the Island. A couple of years ago their was a lady from the US who was a breeder who moved up to your neck of the woods. She was really hoping to continue breeding. I'll have to see if I can find her info. I would suggest checking out Kijiji(any town on Island),do you have a usedcomoxvalley.com or usedcourtney.com etc. seems to be the places most ferrets are advertised. Otherwise do you have a pet store around there that sells kits? We have one in Nanaimo that sells kits every so often. A pet store will probably be the only way to get a kit. You could also try smallanimalrescue.org and littlemischiefrescue.org They're both on the mainland but had done some transporting of adoptions to the island before.

If you want me to phone the pet store here to see if there's any ferrets, you can just pm me.

I hate the after Christmas season. I was looking for other junk last year around this time and all the animal ads broke my heart. I hope you find yourself a cute fert soon!
