Ash 1050g 1cube of soup with meat slivers Stool is tarry but good consistent with brown and black color. He has normal activity
Luna 780 g Eats 1 cube soup with small meat chunks. Stool is tarry with some greenish slime. Very hyper activity.
So a couple days ago I started giving them a plate to eat from and not their bowl.. I noticed they would not eat but the stuff on the edge lol.. so when I changed back to their bowl and they are eating just fine. All kibble has been pulled. They are now on slivers and small chunks.

Sounding good. The whole bowl thing doesn't surprise me. Don't change too much all at once ;D Now when you state one cube, what does that weigh? Sounds like they're having some difficulty digesting the high blood content. Are you still feeding some gizzards on the side? That would account for the tarry stools. Greenish slime would be the body not quite getting the whole raw thing yet. Your wee ones should be eating about 2 to 3 oz of mix for Ash and about 2 oz or a bit less for Luna. Activity level and appetite will probably reach peak levels within a week or so. Once they get the hang of this you won't be able to feed them. Be prepared, some are less than others but often it's like they can't get enough of it ciao

Ok, that's why you're getting the tarry stools. That's fine, as long as we know where they're coming from ;D Good luck on the bone. Let me know how it goes ciao

They have quit eating... only picking at the slivers. This started yesterday morning. I actually had to throw away food yesterday and I fed them before going to bed and same thing.

It sometimes happens. Are they only eating the slivers or just the soupy around the slivers? If they're only eating the slivers, see if that's what they want is whole meats. So offer them a few slivers and see if that's what they want to eat. Sometimes, they also get into their head they like a certain texture or taste. They may have decided they want just the gizzards/gibblets. You can also try stepping back a bit and trying less slivers and more soupy again. Sometimes it's all about textures. How are the stools and activity levels? ciao

Stools are still normal with some of the green slime. They seem to have boycotted slivers and meat chunks! Should I go backwards to soup?

Back it up a step then. Go back to soupy....we moved to fast for them and they've gone on strike Naughty little bums. No, go back to soupy, this time we will spend a bit more time on just a few slivers and see how it goes. First off though, lets get them eating their soupy again. ciao

Yes you can, but expect them to dig in their heals if it's new. Some take to it without issue, I've got some old timers who still dig in their heals if they've not had that protein source for awhile or if they've never had it. Some of them have been eating raw for 2 or 4 yrs. ciao

So i made beef soup with chicken organs ( i hope thats ok!) They will not leave the bowl! I gave them 2 tbs to start and luna ate it before ash got to it.. so i upped it and gave them 6 luna went back to the bowl and then ash finished off around 4 tbs.. i was making the chicken soupy to freeze when i noticed they were empty again. I then made another whole batch of beef and filled their bowl half way.. ash has not let the bowl and luna is eating with him! Whew.. i am glad they are eating. The soup is thick still but not super chunky.

Sounds like you've hit a bonus meat. You can mix organs and such. I find it's rare that I can get all the right items needed for make up a soupy. I used ground chicken necks as my base, that's my bone in meats....from there I use as much of one protein as possible. This week is beef...and I actually managed to get ground beef, beef heart, beef kidneys, and liver. So they're getting a basic beef soft food this week. That's why we call it frankenprey ;D By the way, I'm not ignoring you. I've been sicker than a dog, actually wished I was dead a couple of times. I will try and get in once a day. I'm feeling a bit better right now, but so far I've slept about 24 hrs except for the times I've been saying hello to the porcelin bowl ciao

Ohh by no means do you need to apologize.. seems the flu and the stomach virus are passing through our house. Get better soon! It is very hard to find many organs here. All i have found is chicken livers and hearts. I do have pork neck but they refuse to eat it right now. All soup feedings have been sucessful Sent from my SCH-R930 using proboards

Keep your eyes open for organ meats, sometimes they just happen and that's when you buy them. I can get them through my raw feeding coop which helps a lot but it's usually turkey hearts. We've got a grocery store that has started carrying a lot of organ meats and when I went through check out the lady on the till made the remark that it was "dog food grocery day", she said that the store had been stocking it just for the raw feeding dogs in the area. If you have any ethnic grocery stores in your area, they're sometimes good for some interesting raw foods too. Strangely enough my guys have been balking at pork too. They used to love it. We've often suggested pork after trying chicken as it's mild in flavour and the ferret seem to like it. My guys have been really pleased with the beef which is one that is usually not so well accepted. No accounting for their tastes. I would start trying slivers again in the next couple of days but let's keep it there for about a week this time before both increasing the number and size and see if they will keep eating. Got to love them, they prefer the foods they don't have to chew but are willing to chew rubber buttons off your cell phone ciao
