Sounds good It can really impact on the direction of a diet switch.

I called the vet this morning & had them add Stewie instead of Stig. Archer is doing MUCH better. I really think that me being gone ALL day & night on Saturday really upset him. Poos have gotten better & he has been coming out of the cage on his own & even today he jumped a bit. We're not 100%, but he is definitely better than he was on Sunday.
Rascal ate from the bowl last night! Miki kind of did. She would lick a little bit & make this weird face, hold her head up, walk away & then come back. It's really silly. Snickerdoodle is still fighting me..goober. Everyone else is doing pretty good with eating from the bowl.

I really think that me being gone ALL day & night on Saturday really upset him. That's not too surprising. These guys really stress out with changes at times. Glad to hear the others are doing well! Keep working with Snickerdoodle- he'll get there With Miki, she was taking bits of soup away with her to eat ;D Maybe she'd do better with a feeding den? That way she can eat in private.

She does like to stash food, so a feeding den...hmm....
Just got back from the vet & Stewie's BG was 48, which to be honest, he does NOT act like his BG is THAT low. So we've upped his pred. She didn't think anything else was necessary (which I'm glad she didn't even bring up surgery because at his age...no thanks). He does have some weight loss, which he seems to yo yo diet, but she said the low BG is most likely causing it. I've been giving him duk soup with extra A/D (high calorie food). She wants me the check his BG again in two weeks (I forgot my meter to calibrate it with theirs since I just ran into the house, grabbed the ferts I needed & ran out the door). I have a friend that is a vet tech that I'm sure she would help me with checking his BG at home. The vet said that even though I forgot the meter she said we could still work with it. Archer got a deslo as well & he did very well. He continues to improve too with his shelter shock.

Hopefully the pred increase brings his BG back up to where it should be! Until it does, he will need constant access to food, so it can't be removed prior to trying the raw soup, just in case. Glad Archer is starting to come out of himself!

I've been sneaking FD food in the kibble to & they've been eating it without really noticing the difference. LOL! Suckers.

Oh, good! FD is expensive, so not a lot can afford to keep it in the cage, especially when they have more than one ferret. If you can- that would be closer to the ideal.

Nothing new really. Still working on getting all of them to take from the bowl using the lowering of the spoon technique. Snickerdoodle is still a little reluctant, but I'm still working on her.
Archer is getting better day by day (no problematic poos) & I'm starting to think he's more like a cat & will come out of his cage whenever he wants. Stig is still down with taking the BARF mixture without a problem. I am in the process of introducing Stig & Archer to the crew & the normal pecking order stuff is happening. As I don't want to stress Archer out because it's pretty obvious that he's a sensitive (or emo if you will) fert, should I wait to push the raw on him after he gets comfortable in the big cage once I move them in (which will be happening this week)?

It might be an idea to at least introduce him to the raw. That way he'll smell similar to the others. Since Stig is doing so good, why not try introducing some slivers into his? Frequently if you can get one going faster the others will follow suit. It's very much a case of "if YOU like it so much I want it!" ;D Also- I start introducing raw the first day they come in the door. I figure I may as well get all the stress over with at once!

Okay, here is the rundown from tonight:
Those that will eat directly from the bowl: Stig, Shiro, Bubbles, Mimiteh, & Rascal. Those that need to be scruffed: Snickerdoodle, Stewie, & Archer Miki & Fungo don't really fit in either of those because they will both lick from the spoon & then Miki will sniff the bowl as the spoon is in it & will lick what is on the spoon. If she happens to get a larger piece (I'm making the mixture with less water so it's a bit thicker) she'll run off & eat it. Fungo just doesn't seem interested in the bowl even when I lower the spoon into it.
At this point, we have 7 that will take it without being scruffed, 5 that will eat directly from the bowl. Not too bad.

Just wanted to check in & let you know that there are no real changes. Still working on those that require scruffing. Goobers.

Okay! For the ones who will take it from the bowl by themselves, start getting it to the texture of a wet ground meat state. You can also try hand feeding the same thing to the ones who won't eat on their own. For Fungo, try sitting on the floor with him. Put the dish in front of him, but keep hold of him so he can't run off. Start with him eating from the spoon and just keep lowering it to the dish. You may want to use a small plate with him if you aren't already. It can make a difference. As long as he'll clean the spoon sitting in the dish, keep him there for 3-4 meals, then as he's cleaning the spoon, start moving it slightly away so he can lick at the soup directly under it.
