Hi,
I have 3 ferrets; Frisky, Jasper, and Molly. Frisky and Jasper are father and son, respectively. They are the ones in the picture. Molly joined the family recently. She's very tiny and I don't have a picture of her yet.
I've had other ferrets in the past; my first two were boys and I only had them a short while since I was just petsitting for a co-worker. Then I got 2 more who were girls, but a year later I had to move so they found a new home.
Since I settled in, and had a big cage, I decided to get a pair of intact ferrets from a breeder. At the time I thought it was extremely rare to find intact ferrets, since they are almost always spayed or neutered. The breeder was retiring from breeding ferrets in favor of sugar gliders, so she sold her pair to me. Their original names were Lucius and Louisa, but I later changed Lucius' name to Frisky Lucius, and now he's just Frisky. This pair had already bred when they were with the breeder, and I wanted to try some breeding of my own. However, Louisa came into season much sooner than I expected. I thought it would be next spring since she already bred this year. So I let them mate and a litter was born August 1. I wasn't quite prepared, so a ferret rescue helped me rehome the kits. Louisa was always a bitey ferret; she may have some wild genes. For that reason, I wasn't sure I wanted to keep her, so she found a home experienced with wilder ferrets. So I only kept Frisky and his son Jasper, and they were neutered. I didn't really want them neutered, but the rescue talked me into it. I also very recently adopted Molly, a small female from the rescue.
Even though I wasn't quite prepared for the breeding, I still want to do all the research I can and breed again some time in the future.
