She has this opinion that they're going to crawl all the way up her and go for the jugular. ;D
Dexter is like a tiny dog as well - follows you around, plays with toys like a dog, doesn't stash, hasn't chewed a single thing and loves being pet.

I have an old friend who hates ferrets, says they are all mean and nasty and bite. I've told him mine aren't like that and that they bite if they are ill handled, but he insists that all ferrets on earth hate him. I keep telling him to get his a$$ up here and meet my Sigma, the sweetest boy on Earth. Some people are just so set in their ways.

It didn't help that she went down in the basement this evening to genuinely spend some time with them and Dexter latched on to her pajama pants and would *not* let go for anything.
He just really, really liked how stripe-y they were!

Sorry for such a late post, holidays and all. They've kept me quite busy.
Anyway, things are still going very well. They rush to the bowl at feeding time and Dexter looks like he might be gaining some weight. Going to weigh them the next time they're out to play.
Doing 9oz a night now - they're scarfing that meat down. Once I get back to my house I'm going to try and do morning and night feedings again - maybe they'll take to it this time.
They're getting like 10 hours a day out ;D I can't believe my parents are so receptive to the little critters. My mom is trying to get over her fear of them - I would like her to be able to watch them when I go on vacation in the spring and she really wants to learn to not be scared of smaller animals.

I hear you on the holidays thing. Got to go to a family thing myself this afternoon.
Sounds like your group is doing great. I'm really surprised that one feeding is enough for them without being hungry, they must have small appetites. Are they eating any soup at all still or is it just all meat slivers now?

Just meat slivers now. They're still about dime sized (or smaller in the case of liver) but they're also taking to the smaller bones I've given them (tiny hen bones).

We've got 2.9lbs on Loki; 2.3 lbs on Dexter.

They are munching up a lot of the bones?
Their weighs sounds like they are fine.

Well I'm certainly not finding the bones, so I'm not sure what else they could be doing with them. ;D
The larger bones, obviously, I do find chewed on. But the tiny hen bones (rib cage bits, whatever else I could cleave up) that I mixed into their pieces I haven't found any of.

If they are eating them you will often see shards in their poops. Obviously if they weren't getting any bone regularly you'd probably be seeing lots of liquid cement poos. Keep me posted when you start making changes to size etc. My ferrets are going to be very spoiled as I have a few lbs of venison in the freezer with their name on it. ^^

I "inspected" the poop today yep, they got slivers of something in it! So I guess they're eating the bone. Anyway, Dexter being so much smaller than Loki really, really bothers me. Gave them two raw eggs today and a small portion of food in the early afternoon. Going so see if they go for "earlier" feedings so I can seriously increase the amount they get over all...I want Dexter to be a fluffy muscle ferret like Loki.

Some ferrets are small, it really depends on their body type. Out of 6 boys I have 1 whippet build (who is a fat little piggy right now at almost 3 lbs) and 5 bulldog build boys who are 3 lbs or more. Artemis would look so terribly obese if he was almost 4 lbs like Wheatley is right now.

I've been providing 3oz in the morning and 6.5oz in the evening. They are still not interested in eating during the day - they let the 3oz sit until evening, when I add the 6.5oz they proceed to eat everything overnight.
I'm confused at why they want to wait until after dark to eat.
Still eating slivers; going to buy new meat tomorrow - hopefully I'll be able to find some really neat stuff again.

Do they have any kind of feeding den or safe place set up to take meals? Maybe they feel more secure in the dark. I toss some cardboard boxes in cages for them to carry their treats off to snack in.

They have one at home but not here while we're visiting my parents. Their traveling cage is just way too small (it's a super pet and has those tiny shelves).
