Hello hello, all! I'm Kate, 26 years old and referred here from ferret.forum.com because I am wanting to switch my new fuzzies to a raw diet! For a bit of background, I was not looking for or even expecting to own ferrets...these two were a gift from my husband that he picked up from a lady who is one of his customers. Their cage from top to bottom was absolutely filthy, I'm amazed that they were in reasonably good shape and can't imagine she'd had them for very long. He got them because he thought I'd like them (and I suspect to try to keep me from getting a ball python next year, LOL) but honestly, even if I really truly didn't want them, they'd have needed rescue anyway.
So I got their cage cleaned up, washed their hammock, gave them baths, trimmed their nails and for the past few days they've been settling in quite nicely. Because we didn't have the money to get them a quality kibble, I've had to continue giving them the kitten kibble they came with. It has a decent amount of protein but the fat content was sorely lacking so I've been supplementing it with a bit of Ferretone mixed in. I'm wanting to switch them to raw as quickly as possible. These little bits have become my responsibility and I intend to give them the best TLC and healthy diet that I possibly can.
So far, my progress has been to get them to eat mushy kibble that still has a little bit of crunch to it and today I mixed in just a teeny bit of raw ground chuck with it that they seem to have enjoyed, although they won't take the hamburger by itself from my hands. I've been following instructions from this thread: everythingfert.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=kristen&action=display&thread=12373 for switching, and any thoughts/tips on what can be improved or expanded on would be awesome!
Thank you so much for your time and assistance!
Kate
