So I was looking at the local Humane Society page today because every so often I check to see if they have ferrets. Today I decided to look at the dogs they have there, on a whim. And then I come across this entry about a 12 year old shepherd/retriever cross. He'd been with the same family for his whole life but they'd had to move and leave him. He's been at the shelter for four months. So I sat for a while being impotently enraged at this before I realized that we have a large house and I have the money to care for him. I called my mom and told her what's going on. She was really sympathetic and said she 'wasn't going to give me an answer right now' which for my mom is usually code for yes. I went to visit him because the CAHS is only a few minutes away. He was very sweet and seemed healthy. I sent mom a picture and told her that he was well mannered and seemed to get around great for a twelve year old. She seems pretty much on board. Then I get home and my stepdad just looks at me and says 'no'. I guess he was visiting my mom when I called her. Uggh but his reasons are really dumb and he's one of those types where once the dog is here he'd get attached really fast. He's just being a blockhead. I'm gonna keep working away at him and hope he comes around, because a senior dog shouldn't be stuck in a shelter for his last few years. cahs-lansing.org/index.php/community-info/available-pets/96He's the second one on this page, Bear.

I hope you can get him, I can't even imagine how anyone could put a dog they'd had for 12 years in a shelter. It just kills me to see seniors like that, I've been tempted several times lately but we already have three dogs, I'm one over my ideal limit as is.

We have two but both are other-dog friendly. My parents are resisting the idea. It sucks because mom sounded all for it until Dale talked to her. Ugh.

I hope the poor lad can find a home. I was reading on one of the fb groups the other day, a rescue took in a 19 year old dog. For whatever reason the owner's surrendered him However- he found a home very quickly with some kind soul.

It's just really frustrating that I'm willing to take on all the costs and all they'd have to do is share house space and they're saying no.
