My two kits, both 6 months old, brother and sister. Samson started to show signs of going into Rutt, turned yellow, horrible smell, rubbing himself onto everything while his sister Sassy nothing at all. Samson started to show signs of aggression towards both his sister and my other sprite Bella and I quickly separated them, Samson was put in his own cage overnight. They still played together during the day but were totally and 100% supervised at all times. When he did scruff either of them and tried to mount them I intervened. After 2 weeks Samson was hard to live with, smell was woahhh baddddd!!! So Both Samson and sassy were implanted with 4.7 suprelorin. 2 days after implant The hormone surge started with sassy and her vulva started to swell which sent Samson m.e.n.t.a.l - they were no longer allowed to play together for more than 5-10 minutes at a time. Day 12 after implant Sassy's vulva was back to normal and Samson had calmed down enough for all to play together however they did not go back in the same cage during the night until day 15...all good!!! I have now noticed that Sassy is steadily putting on weight...alot of weight. Since she was implanted 15 days ago she has put on 120 grams, her nipples are more prominent and pink, she's eating more and sleeping more. I would have thought the implant would have reversed these symptoms. Has anyone had similar experience. Please keep in mind that her vulva was not swollen until two days after implant therefor can not be really pregnant as she was not with Samson.
Hmmm I have never dealt with the implant or had a phantom with any 4 of my litters (fingers crossed all my 3 litters this year aren't as well) so I have no idea hun! maybe someone else can help with this one and I hope all goes well
It sounds like she's falsing....either that or she's somehow managed to get pregers by your boy. Remember, the implant does not start to work immediately (I believe my vet says that the sperm can still be viable for up to 3 weeks). Now, that being said, it sounds like the implant did exactly what it was supposed to for her, cause a hormone surge (bringing her into season) but hopefully stopping ovulation. That being said, if everything works right....she should probably false (you've got 42 days give or take), she will (as we say here, birth her air babies) and then she will stay out of season for 18 months to 2 yrs....maybe. They've tested hobs but not jills, so they're relying heavily on people reporting how their jills react. Keep a very close eye on her during the year (you don't want her to come into season and tie a good one on with your boy behind the sofa). My wee jill put on a fair bit of weight during her false, in fact gave all the signs of being pregers. Eating more, putting on weight, hair loss and nipples becoming more prominent and pink. Yes, she did become less active. Once she was done with her false, she didn't come back into season
Thank you My understanding was that a jill would not accept a hob or he could not force himself on her if she was not in heat. I checked her daily and Samson was taken away from her at least 10 days before she showed signs of coming on heat. Yes they played together but that was supervised. I'm not looking forward to airbabies either, poor sassy, will she mourn them when she doesnt have real babies? that doesnt even sound normal. :-/
No....they don't really seem to care. For about 24 hrs, she was really sleepy, she had made a real comfy deep nest and because Lady Morgain still wasn't too comfortable being here, she defended her nest. That morning she was done and over....the nest was destroyed and she was her wild wooly self. No, mourning....just a pre-phantom weasel. I found the weight loss a little disconcerting because it was there when I put her to bed that night and it was basically gone the next day...and the whole process was over. If you continue with the implants, she won't go through it ever again. ciao
Hi a jill does not have much say if a hobs determined to have his wicked way in season or not what usually happens in that case is one mass battle she puts up a h*ll of a fight but as they are babies ( 6 months ) she may of thought it was all a game if he did successfully try and mount her as heather has stated it sounds like she could be going into a phantom pregnancy due to the hormone surge actually after she has had her air babies poor samson will then become her target lol in her eyes he must be this baby she had and she will quite happily clean his ears and try and drag him around by the scruff of his neck lol ( he wont like it but its sweet revenge lol ) and don't think because of size difference it wont be possible lol I have seen one pound jills dragging five pound males around while they cry like babies into the nest for a good old ear cleaning and cuddle by there phantom mom lol take care bye for now bev
Cricket made Onyx's life a living h*ll for a while after I falsed her out. It was pretty funny as nothing he did made her happy. She wanted to groom him. She didn't want to groom him and didn't want him within 10 feet. If he was still, she whipped him. If he moved, she whipped him. It only lasted a short while but he was miserable for a little while. As soon as the invisible kits arrived (and went their way) she was fine again. We were all grateful.
OMG I shouldnt laugh but its quite amusing thinking my little 980g girl is going to drag around her 1.7kg brother hehehe. Im going to get them both surgically desexed when they get over the 12/15 month mark so grateful I wont go through this again. Sammy will be in big trouble because she's the groomer anyway, I havent had to do anyones ears - she's great at it, mummys little helper.
As for not believing(or having trouble believing) about tiny ferrets dominating and dragging resistant males- my 4lb gib is STILL terrified of my 600 gram sprite as she quite soundly beat the h*ll out of him daily for a week!

Well if I had a dollar for the saying "never" hehe... I've seen the implant in a whole jill take her out of season in 3 days. That said, never say never is the quote. It does cause a hormone spike after implantation but it might have been a coincidence and she was already going into season. When I had a jill implanted in obvious heat she did go though a false pregnancy but it seemed she was even more hormonal than most. She drove everyone crazy in her cage going through the mommy routine. She did finally settle down but it took about 6 months. I would keep watching as it is possible he could have impregnated her. An ultrasound towards the end of the 42 days would confirm what is going on.
OMG I dont even think I want to consider the fact that she may be really pregnant, im so comfortable thinking its a phantom. I really was very careful and watched them non stop. They are brother and sister, they are 6 months old, I have No idea about breeding kits, OMG I feel like ive done something really bad, Gosh I hate doubting myself, Im going to be freaking out for the next 2 weeks. If she is I'll have to keep all the kits myself, there is no way i would sell inbred kits and possible genetic problems to an unsuspecting person. OMG this is so against everything I believe in.

Don't freak, just watch her to make sure for her sake. I'm sure it is a false one but then again things can happen quickly and it isn't unheard of for a jill to be expecting at that age. Of course not the thing to do at that age but it can happen.
Deep breath wait and see no point in getting upset over something that might never happen ! and if it does you wont be the first and you wont be the last person it has happened to by accident try not to think of the worst lets just wait out her 42 days and see what happens we are all her to help what ever the outcome take care bye for now bev
Her nipples are not pink or enlarged at all but she is still bloated, not more so than 2 weeks ago, she has stayed the same at 1.1kg from 830 grams. I dont know what Im looking for but she's happy enough, playing and eating plenty.
