Poor sheldon has another abscess right next to his anus and this time im sure its a botched marshall's surgery :/ im not sure if i should lance and drain it again through the vet or warm it and squeeze the puss out manually. I know the vet said that this would be a reoccurring thing but i had no idea it would be this bad... I talked to the better of my two vets and she said if i don't wanna risk a surgery with all of Sheldon's health problems i'll be able to get by with just draining the abscess myself as it shouldn't come back too often (especially if i'm watching him closely and making sure he stays clean) what should i do? how much will the surgery cost to fully remove his anal sack or at least how much approximately (including whatever tests and meds go with it >.<) lets just say my fiancé is less than thrilled about Sheldon getting sick again >.>

I've no idea how much the surgery to repair this would be, but it's entirely possible you can get some of it back from Marshall's, as they botched the job. Repeated infections like this are not good over the long term, that's for certain.

I would investigate to see what opportunities are available. I know that Minion's surgery cost a lot less than I anticipated, but it was the best long term solution for him. Sometimes, taking the big hit, is the cheapest and least problematic solution and sometimes the best long term solution for the health of the ferret. If your vet considers this a logical solutions (just dealing wth the abscess as it appears) then I would be documenting how often (even if you just mark it on the calendar) it happens. I would also mark how long before the abscess resolves itself. Often with these type of issues, the abscesses start to return faster and faster and they take longer and longer to heal. If it is indeed Marshals problem I would be attempting to get some compensation from them, especially if you're going to do the surgery. Make sure that you're vet is willing to give you or send them documentation regarding the issue ciao

a yes that would be nice..... i was on the phone with marshall's for over an hour (being on hold and then them switching my line to different people because they didn't want to deal with it) last time this happened. they told me i would need my original receipt of purchase and a doctor's note stating that sheldon in fact had a botched surgery. i would also need proof of myself feeding him marshall's food. PLEASE! as IF i would feed him that crap. Anyway they make it nearly impossible for you to receive compensation. aaaaand lucky me i get the idea that even if i could get compensation.... it would be a new ferret. <----- possibly diseased and such and they would kill sheldon. screw that. i'll just have to get a quote on his surgery costs and i'll let everyone know my decision. Hoping the antibiotics dont give him the runs again.... that was the worst part... so much blood it scared the crap outta me.

Someone else here a while back got partial compensation for the same thing. Yes, she had to jump through a bunch of hoops. But she got it. As for "proving" you are feeding Marshall's, buy a small bag and keep the receipt. Your vet doing the surgery to remove the botched gland is proof enough of that. And no- you do NOT have to return your ferret.

Push the envelope with them...they're counting on you backing down. You don't have to return the ferret. I've known too often where partial compensation was awarded. They're counting on you loving your wee boy to pieces and backing off. Sherry's right, the vet's writ will be enough, go out and buy that bag of Marshal's food...don't use it...donate it....no one's going to keep the receipt for every bag of food they've ever bought. He won't be doing the surgery alone, will he let you assist. Take photos...these people annoy me beyond belief. They prey on us at so many levels. Hold them responsible for your little boys pain and suffering. Oh, and that double dot in his ear is enough to prove he's one of theirs....they can Ignorant idiots....they should at least take responsibility for their botch ups, they certainly don't take responsibility for the genetic messes they create ciao
