Hello everyone, So as promised in my introductions thread here is a picture of my new cage setup. I only got it today and spent a couple of hours putting it together (No instructions made this take longer than it should have). It doesn't have too much in it at the moment: 1x Hammock 1x Big fleece house thing 1x Tube fleece 1x Play tube 1x Fleece slipper house thing Plus general bits such as food bowl, clip-on water bowl and water bottle and two poop corner trays. I still need to make some ladder/ramp covers and work out how to make covers for the different levels although the levels all have raised edges so it is not as simple as just making sleeves for them. Not sure what I am going to do for them yet. Anyway what does everyone think about my setup, anything I should look out for/change and do you think it looks big enough for 2-3 ferrets?

Very nice! Good size for 2-3 ferrets no worries! You might want to switch away from a corner litter box some ferrets may not use them if they can't fully fir their body inside. If you don't mind me asking where did you get the fleece house thing attached to the side?

Looking pretty good to far. That lucky fuzz that comes home with you will have a great home.
You've already said your making ramp covered so that is all set.
Other then that the only thing I would mention is the same as Kely pointed out. Often ferrets do not like the corner litter boxes as they can't fit there entire boy in it. If you find you have this problem I suggest a kitten or small cat litter box. Often the larger size of these compared to the ferret litter boxes means you don't always have to have two in the cage.

You are going to have some climbers. I noticed that the bars on that cage are horizontal. You may not need the ramps at all!! ;D
I also just noticed that those metal trays look like they might be able to be pushed out from the inside? If so small female ferrets may be able to escape that way. You might want to create some kind of cover for that section of the cage so the trays can't be pushed out.

Thanks for the posts everyone, so as I said I will be trying my hand at some ramp covers tomorrow so that is underway. I also plan to buy more toys etc, trawling through eBay as we speak looking for fun things. Also cheers for the heads up about the corner boxes, I guess I will try with the new recruits but if they don't take to it then I may just go ahead and make one of the external toilet boxes I saw on one of the stickies above, it seems like a good way to keep a clean cage and make for easy cleaning. Also very good point about the removable trays bitbyter, they do indeed slide out and maybe could be pushed out from the inside. I will try and find a way to either secure them so only I can slide them out or maybe making some sort of cover to prevent them from moving without my interaction. Thanks as always for all the advice everyone, loving the forum EDIT: Oh I just checked the cage and it seems that they anticipated the fact the inhabitants might try and make an escape and there are holes in the back of each tray that enable you tie or hook it onto the cage and stop it moving so that is one problem solved.

Well I tried my hand at a bit of sewing today, while they may not be the nicest looking ramp covers you have probably seen I think at least they should be functional. They have double stitched folded backs that mean they should be a little hard wearing, I think I could do better with a sewing machine but they should do for now. Or at least until I can borrow the use of a machine from a friend/family member. I also ordered another set of hammocks and fleece houses etc which I can use for the travel cage (which I also ordered) and as a second set for when I wash the first set. Just need to buy some material to line the floors and then I think I am ready to introduce some ferrets!

Hey everyone, So tomorrow is the day! I am going to the rescue and hopefully will return with some new friends. So I spent today getting the last few things ready for their arrival. I decided to make an external toilet box following the plans found on this very forum: I even made my own litter box that fits inside the room: You can also see my travel cage on the first picture, so that will be coming with me tomorrow. Man I am so excited!

Love your cage setup. I notice 2 potential dangers though, if they have access to the stairs they might fall or jump. Also that cord could be a target of chewing.

Good eye, weloveourweasels.
If you are handy enough you could set up a plexiglass 'wall' to place against the stair railing at the points where a fall would be harmful. I wouldn't worry about the lower section of stairs.
And yes, that extension cord would be a target. It's deliciously rubber coated! Besides, extension cords shouldn't be used for over 24hrs straight any way. ^.~
