I have tried putting hammocks in the cage for Sierra. Not even 1 time i've seen her use it.. She prefers sleeping on the cage floor with a piece of fleece OR she will sleep on one of the shelves which has no cloth on it. Any idea why she hates them hammocks so much?

Remus prefers a little ferret bed I got him but my theory is that it's easier for him to tell when I come in and turn on the light than in a hammock up by the cieling of the cage. (Since he's deaf he can't hear me when I come in)

Since Nyxie was added, everyone has been boycotting the hammocks and opted for sprawled out together option. ;D

Remus prefers a little ferret bed I got him but my theory is that it's easier for him to tell when I come in and turn on the light than in a hammock up by the cieling of the cage. (Since he's deaf he can't hear me when I come in) That's interesting! The only one of my guys who doesn't sleep in their hammock is Anya, who's deaf as well. The only time she uses it is when I'm in the room, and she'll hop in and swing it back and forth as she stares and waits for me to let her out of the cage. (granted, I can't say she avoids it b/c she wants to tell when I get in the room, since she sleeps wrapped up in a sweater (she's half bald, right now, from adrenal, and the open windows can make the room a bit nippy. Even warmer, she didn't use the hammock, though)) All the rest of my guys, though, LOVE their hammies, and they like piling in altogether, too, sometimes. I do know that when some of my babes were younger it took them a bit to recognize hammocks, or anything off of cage floor/shelf OR room floor as something to explore. It took growing out and older ferts showing them the ropes before they consistently remembered they were there, hahaha. Also, I notice my guys less likely to use hammocks if the top of the cage is uncovered, or the area the hammock is in seems too exposed, something they're not used to, as I use dark, heavy sheets draped over the cage to encourage them to stay mellow when caged up (I just flip the long ends up on top of the cage during the day, so the top and sides of the second story is generally always covered, unless they pull it off while being naughty).

Remus sleeps under blankets or flannels if he's out of the cage but he's only out of the cage if I'm in the room.

She may not be used to them. Have you tried gently setting her in one?
My group of 9 varies back and forth, we'll have phases where we'll all sleep on the floor in the fleece in a pile, then later we'll all be piled in a hammock together. My current record is 6 ferrets sleeping piled in one snuggle sack. My deaf girl loves to sleep in hammocks.

Mine seem to like hammocks in the warmer weather but now, with the cooler weather, two prefer the cubes or sack. Sometimes a cuddle bed. I think the sacks are favored over anything here.

Some like their hammies, and some prefer a blanket. We've got one who will sleep out in the open the majority of the time, whether a hammock, on top of blankets and other bedding, or even the floor.

Definitely, either she's not used to them or too little to reach it. When I first brought Sushi home she didn't know how to use the hammock and was too little to reach it herself, and when I'd put her in the hammock she'd be too scared to get down. She really was a tiny thing when I brought her home. So I'd put blankets in there for her to sleep with until she got older, then when she was big enough she started using the hammock on her own. A few months back I added a new sleeping spot by making a small nest box out of a shoe box and duct tape I had on hand, and placed it in a problem spot she was going poop on inside her cage. Now when it comes to the hammock, she'll only use it when she's hot or wants to stretch out, other than that she prefers to sleep in her nest box. Makes her feel warm and cozy and safe in the darkness.

My boys came with a hammock in the cage they had when I adopted them. I moved it to my Ferret Nation when I brought them home and they used it till I have to throw it away. Any hammocks I bought them after that they they had no interest in until the newest one I bought off Etsy. They love that one so much.

My UK crew had never used them before. It took them most of the time they've been with me to actually use the hammies. The 'binos have finally figured out they're for sleeping in, not bouncing in . Tico prefers cubes. Lady Morgain, prefers sleeping dens and nests that she creates in the bedding. I think it depends on what they're used to ciao

Sonny is free roaming but one of his friends on facebook made him a free standing hammy. He loves it!
