I don't have nor have I ever tried ferretvite... always tried to stay away from it... This one girl who raw feeds her cats that I met a little while back suggested something thick to mix the meds in, like Peanut butter.... Think that's safe to try? Sherry, even though it's never happened yet, I am ALWAYS scared someone will breathe in some meds as I give it I hope it never happens

Peanut butter is an absolute no no....my dog would like that but my cats .... oh I would so get a slap ;D What does she like that you can suck up a syringe. My guys get fish oil chasers. I've heard about sandwiching them meds between oils....never tried it personally. Sulcrate must be given with the hour to provide an effective tummy coating. The rest of the meds should be spaced....feed the metro last...it's the grossest and you will wear it the most often. I used to give it over the toilet. As long as you syringe across the mouth instead of directly through the front, toward the back you should be ok. I usually place the syringe end in the corner of their mouth, it works for me Good luck, you and your wee one has been through a lot ciao

Ok, so if no PB, what about some banana? Lyla is VERY attracted to Banana... She likes nothing that cab ne sucked into a syringe... she likes her NV Freeze dried food (just enough to eat...), she likes Pure Bites, and she likes NBones. That's it of things she's "allowed" to eat... I'll try to stop at a petstore on my way home tonight, see if I can find some Fish Oil... This morning went a bit better. I wapped her tight in a blanket, and she said nothing to the amoxil, then she frothed up at the ranitidine (it's so weird.... even the med in the bottle has little bubbles floating on it... almost looks like soap??), and last I gave the Metro, and same as yesterday, I ended up wearing most of that... What's the Metro for? Any way to avoid it? On a side note, Meeko's not been doing so well for the past 8 hours.... last night when I got up to give Lyla her Sulcrate for the night, Meeko had just thrown up a bit some clear liquid... Then again this morning at 5:30 when Lyla was due for her other 3 meds... She would barely eat this morning when I fed her, and now she just went back to sleep after roaming around for 30 minutes, not actually playing I hope it's not her lymphoma acting up

Start with some rescue remedy for all of them. Lyla being sick is going to stress everyone out. As for the metro, it is unfortunately the most efficacious for a variety of diarrhea

One thing that might help with the metro is when you have her burritoed, lay her on your lap with her bottom end tucked between your arm and your body, and try holding her head still with that hand while giving the metro with the other. That was the only way I could get it into Boris. You'll actually kind of wind up leaning over and half pinning her upper half with your belly/chest.

That's what worked best for me too. If your little one just spits it back at you (and doesn't pee and poop on you like my one wee boy), even wedging yourself against the table with the ferret tucked tight under your arm helps too. You want the least wiggling ferret as possible and continue to hold them for a few after giving the drug too. I hate that stuff and luckily for me, it's the drug of last resort with my vet....unfortunately, it does work the fastest on a lot of stomach type issues ciao

You might ask about baytril if the metro absolutely doesnt work out. My vet uses it in place of metro if someone in my crew absolutely refuses it (Isabell throws it back up) it works to kill gram negative stuff so while its not as good as metro it still can cover a lot of icky bacteria. It doesnt have the best taste either but they seem to take it better.

My fuzz really like the grizzly salmon oil. I'm currently using it to dose colloidal silver to Dixie.

The only problem I found with using a favourite oil to get Boris to take the metro was that he came to associate the oil with the metro. That was after the second course of it however

Baytril's a good drug, too. And it tastes almost as bad as the Flagyl. They are both disgusting. All of mine always hated them both with a passion.

I've had better reactions with baytril than I have with metro. Isabell atleast didnt throw it back up. That is ofcourse just my experience. I havent had a ferret enjoy any med yet.

The burritoing isn't working the best for her... she's calm inside as I give the amoxil, but when she gets the ranitidine, she starts wiggling out, and by the time I'm done giving her that one she's completely out and she's wiggling like crazy trying to avoid the metro... I bought some unscented Salmon Oil (that's all the pet shop had...), and although Lyla will not eat it willingly, she doesn't mind if I syringe it... so I've been adding it to the syringes, and it helps a bit, but not much... Now she swallows at least about 50% of the Ranitidine and Metro...

You can try adding a touch of grenadine to the ranitidine. Yes its sugar syrup but a tiny bit for a while wont hurt. Thats how I gave pepcid. I disolved the tablets and added in 1ml of it to 4ml of water. You could just suck up a tiny bit to change the flavor. Mine all took it much better this way. Less stress at med time was worth it. Ferretone might work too. I use to hide pred in that.

Hmmm, I'd have to buy some of that then... would anything else work, or just grenadine? As for ferretone, she doesn't like it much... She's no help at all.... Twice now I've needed help from the fiancé to hold Lyla down as I give the ranitidine and metro... Silly to think that it takes two full grown humans to hold down a 540g ferret for her meds

So it's been almost a week now, and no change at all in Lyla.... not a gram of gained weight... I'm even ready to say I think she lost another few out of the stress of being forced meds... She eats, but no weight gain at all...
Is that normal? How long would it take for the meds to take effect if it was actually a bacterial problem?
Thanks
