So we are FINALLY going to look into getting an FN cage since I absolutely abhor this Marshall's ferret mansion when it comes time to clean ferret poops from corners. However, those ramps on the FN look like they end right against the bars of the cage. That seriously cannot be safe or comfortable. Can anyone shed some light on the newer model FN cages for me? Issues with ramps or anything?

They are right up against the bars, almost, but it doesn't seem to bother Remus. Make sure you use the covers cause they're quite steep and I'd be worried about little toes snagging if I didn't have the covers on the ramps.

Yea. The one I'm looking at getting comes with the ramp covers included. So, I'll definitely be using those.

Honestly I don't even use the ramps. Only the one connecting the two main levels. They aren't necessary unless you have a ferret too small or too old to jump/climb up and down. They just take up space IMO.

I hadn't thought of that...I know Remus can climb from level to level so maybe I'll do the same...

If once we get it the ramps just turn out to be an issue, we'll see if all our 3 can jump from level to level. I would think Koda would have no problem. But Jayne is pretty bottom heavy and just not very muscular in the upper body, and Nissa is pretty little. So, we'll have to give that a shot and see what happens.

You can hook the ramps to the side of the cage right next to the shelf. Shelf has to be on the middle setting, then just hook it on the horizontal bars on the back of the cage. I can take a pic if that doesn't make sense.

My boy Murder is very bottom heavy and lazy and even he skips the ramps when he feels like it. You'll see that they actually use the cage bars to climb sometimes between levels if they can't or won't make the jump. Also, the shelves are adjustable as there is 3 sets of holes. You can buy extra shelves even and have 2 shelves per level since there are holes on both sides of the cage. I have a few of these set up, I put the litter box under the shelf set to the lowest level and this creates a cozy, dark den they feel comfortable pooping in. Then the other shelf goes on the opposite side on the second or third level. I don't use a ramp between these two levels. It also creates more floor space.

I've taken all ramps out(except middle- I use those to close off the levels since I need separate cages). When I DID have one as a full 142 I even removed the middle one. I had both shelves in the bottom staggered. The one under the entry hole in the top position, the other opposite in the bottom position. In the top I ran a tube around hooked by bedding hooks in some yarn tied to the tube for this purpose. That was also the level for their food. Bottom had lots of bedding, sleeping den, and litter box.
