We all know how much our fuzzies mean to us of course. But some days, I wonder just how much we mean to them. Some people will tell you that animals don't, couldn't possibly have feelings. But I disagree. It's very clear watching them that they obvious feel some sort of emotion at times.
Mine apparently miss me far more than I realized. I see them every day, feed them, at the very least give them a quick hug or a pet, maybe play with them. Some days we just don't have the time we want to spend with them actively.
But if I go a few days just on maintenance mode like this, the first chance they get they all show me just how much they miss me. I come sit in the room with them and they mob me. Little legs tugging on my clothes, climbing me, demanding my undivided attention. Little eyes boring into my soul, trying to guilt trip with with that booboo face for not playing with them sooner.
I literally the other day had 6 ferrets all come up to me in a wave. I had to pick up each one, hold them, talk to them and pet them for a minute or two before putting them down and moving down the line attending to each one before they would disperse and go play. They apparently miss us very much in the span of a day or two. They did it again to me tonight, and then when they were satisfied that mom had cuddled with them enough they all formed a pile right out in the open on the floor and settled down to a nap. I guess they feel safe with mom there watching over them?
Not sure what I'm going to do with the poor wee mites in October when I go away for 5 days. (Still trying to find a sitter.) I think their water is going to need to be spiked with rescue remedy.
So how long does it take for your wee babies to miss you and how do they show it?

I just took a video today actually...I've been really busy with school and I haven't had as much time as usual. Today I decided I'd take a nap in their room, but Ellie was just as bad as could be, trying to get attention. She was making so much noise that I couldn't sleep at all. Finally I took my phone out to video it and she climbed up on the bins (which she never, ever does) and started making trouble. At the end you can see her run up to me like "Look what I did! I'm so bad...pick me up and tell me no so I can get cuddles and give kisses!" When Pippin misses me he snuggles with me, and he's never been a snuggler. And Goomba puts his paws on my arm, wants to be picked up, only to nip my fingers and look at me look he's terribly offended that I've been away.
D.I.P. Ellie and Pippin, you both hold very dear places in my heart.
Ferrets are not always the best at showing how much we mean to them, but when they do, it is the best! Some days my bf lets the ferrets out before I am home. When I come in the door Kyra runs to me like a bat outta h***! You can almost hear her saying "I Missed You!" When I get home from being away for a weekend the ferrets stand at the cage door (they are not left alone, alone, someone is here to care for them). They will wait there until I open it and then I offer my arm. My 2 girls will wrap their upper "arms" around my wrist/ forearm to be picked up. I usually get lots of kisses at this time. My boy has never learned that trick but will look at me with a tilt in the head that tells me he missed me to (I think he is a WB baby). I can also see quite a difference if I have been away a couple days in the amount the ferrets follow me! They are like my 3 mini shadows. Ferrets can do the sweetest things

Mine doesn't protest poop or cause a ruckus really. She really is a good girl. But on days that I'm on maintenence mode she tends to follow me along even more like a little ducky. She'll follow me around while I'm cleaning her cage, when I'm washing her bowl at the sink she'll lay at my feet and roll trying to get my attention and waits for me. And when I have to go to the washroom she's running after me and follows me in there and waits for me. I try to kick her out but she goes back in and waita for me. Lol.. I call her my little ducky cuz she just follows me around everywhere like I'm the Momma Duck. She'll also climb up onto the couch and fall asleep between my legs.

If Remus is out and I'm on my computer he'll sometimes come paw my foot for a second before going off to adventure again, it's like he's checking in on me. ^.^
I know we're not supposed to have favorites, and I love them all equally... But, man, did I love her.... We were so close, ever since she got insulinoma I was her 6:00AM baby food buddy.
When I would go out to get dinner I would come home and she would be waiting by the front door for me. My wife said that she would be sitting there the whole time.
When she couldn't use her hind legs anymore and was crashing all the time, the doctor said that "she was fading" and we should put her to sleep (her BG was like 16 after a big meal).
I asked for one more night.
She slept with me, the ENTIRE night, wrapped around my neck. She loved us very much. I knew it then.

Frank, that is such a sweet story. Reminds me of the last few nights I had my kitty...she slept right next to my side, curled up to my stomach, never budged.
Over the winter I was hospitalized for 2.5 weeks. Freya gives kisses liberally...the boys, not so much. When I got back from the hospital -- all three gave me kisses. Freya gave me kisses for forever...Marley gave me two or three...Soxx gave me one thorough kiss, right on my nose Both times I was hospitalized and sometimes if I go away for a weekend they will not eat for a day or two, or appetites will diminish drastically. They don't play as much, either.
I know I mean a lot to all my girls, even Dixie. They will come cuddle with me on the occasion I fall asleep during free roam time. Pixie is a lovey and will follow me everywhere. Trixie loves her tummy rubs. Dixie is young and enjoys play more, but is okay with a quick morning snuggle while she's still drowsy. I get lots of love and warm welcomes when I've been busy.

My ferrets "count noses" just like I do. My ferrets remain unsettled when my husband is gone. I get punished I return from "absences". They definitely notice and care when things are amiss in the house.
And, when cage mates are lost, mom/dad can do A LOT to help with grieving. Also, re-homed ferrets may die from grief. This is commonly called "shelter shock". Ferrets can be extremely sensitive.
I never leave but when they feel neglected they come and bug me like heck. Even Thatcher comes sniffing up with his boo-boo eyes and wants cuddles and kisses and isn't happy until I blow on his tummy and snuggle him.
They both also follow me around everywhere. I know they love me.

My one CL rehome seemed to grieve for his old momma for about 2 days when he realized she had left him here and wasn't coming back. Then he seemed to say "Screw it!" and brightened back up remembering he now had two other ferrets to play with and 2 humans who also loved him.
