I recently convinced the SO that we needed to start transitioning Periwinkle to a raw diet, and he agreed! He didn't really need me to convince him too hard once I explained the benifits, though. Today we actually got four huge meat rabbits from a lady who's kids raised them for 4-h, but they were done with 4-h and she didnt want to keep them anymore, so she gave them to us! They were huge and wild, and needless to say, I skinned/gutted/butchered my first rabbits today. I felt pretty badass. Perhaps I am a bad person... I only feel bad about not feeling bad. But the meat looks great and my family (and furries) get some free meals.

Sounds good to me. I don't feel guilty about cleaning and feeding and animal. I use everything except the stomach, spleen and intestines. I find cleaning rabbits rather stinky work but my guys love it. They've just finished two days of rabbit...we're going to have chicks tonight (every body loves them). I hope you and your wee ones enjoy your rabbit dinners ciao

That's a wonderful gift! And no, no reason to feel guilty at all. If they've not had meat before, they likely won't recognize it as food so you'll have to go through a switching process. But the rabbit will keep well in the freezer until they do!

I gave Peri a tiny piece of the rabbit meat and he licked it, chewed it a little, then took it from me and stashed it under the ramp where he puts his toys... So who knows if he'll actually eat it haha. I'm pretty sure he's only like 6/7 months old, so he's young still. Maybe that'll make it easier to switch him (maybe)

unfortiunally my husband wont let me breed rabbits for food. he feels bad for them. makes me wounder how he is able to eat meat with how sad it makes him. i tell him over and over that it is part of life. he dosnt even want me to order frozen rabbit. but i will when i can afford it. i cant even feed them baby chicks unless he is out of the house.

Huh. Well I feel alot better about knowing where my meat comes from, you know? I'd rather raise it myself in good healthy conditions than get it from some farm where you dont know the conditions, or the conditions are bad. If that make sense. Maybe talk to him about that? Thats what I told myself, and its true. And I gave Peri a couple rabbit ribs with a little meat attached, and he stashed it, napped, then ate it! He seemed confused as to how to chew it, but he figured it out! And he ate soupies for breakfast (out of a spoon lol) I am so proud of my boy!
