My deafie loves to dig in his tissue box (I remove the plastic) which solved his cage biting when I got him. I give a different type of box each time to make it interesting. Your forage toy plan is a great idea also, might just try that myself! What a sweetie you have there, you are so lucky to find her And she is lucky to have you as well

I bought Sasha some ferret chews today at Petco, but she doesn't seem to understand them haha! I also made her some new hammies because the blue one I started with is giant and takes up sooo much space. Here is the first one (I used my current favorite fabric): Annnd the second one: Here's a full view pic of her cage now, since she actually has more than one hammock now: Awww, see her little head peeking out of her sleep sack? And finally, time for some pics of Sasha!! Again, not many, but this'll have to do for now: It hasn't even been a week and she has already stolen my heart

((Skimming back, I see Boozle already covered this! Oh well.))
This might sound gross, but if the chews are the ones I'm thinking of.... try chewing a little part of it yourself. Enough to mush an end and get them a little bit soggy. My first ferret didn't know what to do with them until I nibbled a tip a little bit and got it started.
I'm talking about the rubbery star ones that claim to be made of human-grade ingredients. If they're the dental sticks and you don't want to chow down on them yourself.. try crushing one end and soaking it in warm water. Sasha may figure it out if you start it for her!
And.. my first 'personal' ferret was a deafie! They're a challenge, but that only makes you bond more with them. Sasha is VERY lucky to have you for an owner. She'll be very spoiled I see!

Sasha is doing so well, and I loooove her! She has improved so much on her litter box habits. There is the occasional accident in the corner but I'd say 8 times out of 10, she goes back in her cage to go potty. She knows she'll get a treat if she does! Something funny: I SWEAR sometimes she'll go in the litter box, lift up her tail like she's gonna go, then come out with nothing and just stare at me, expecting a treat. She tricks me! Her poop was a bit weird last week, very seedy and yellow, which worried me. I read about the seediness being undigested fat, but I wasn't sure what could have changed in her diet/environment to cause it, so I thought I might have to take her to the vet. Thankfully, I realized those chew sticks I had gotten for her were totally the culprit. I stopped giving them to her as often and now her poop is nice and healthy. Anywho, picture time! She looooves to lay and cuddle up in my fabric stash! I constantly wear scarves, and she particularly likes to sleep in this one since it is a giant circle and basically acts like a hammie that I can carry around by my neck haha Cuddling with my boyfriend : ) They are buddies. And one more. For a ferret, she is very elegant, so to see her doing anything like this is very rare, but hilarious! Sorry it's blurry, but you get the picture.

By the way....the reversing and lifting a tail in the litter box (doing nothing) and then running out of the litter box is so common in ferrets that it's called foxing. She's after the treat. She knows what she's supposed to do for the treat. She's an adorable little minx, I'm so happy that your enjoying her. ciao

Hi all! I haven't been on here in a while but I am getting that ferret craving lately ;D Sasha is doing so well, and I love her to bits. We have totally bonded. She sleeps with me, licks my nose and neck, and dances all day, every day. She hasn't been doing so well with the potty lately, though; most of the time, she finds a corner to go in. It's weird, because for a while she was doing SO well, she'd stop playing and get in the litter box to go, but she rarely, if ever, does that anymore. Another thing: there are 2 upper levels to her cage, and they are pretty small, but she has started pooping and peeing on the top level, even if there is stuff there to block it off. It drives me crazy cause it's so difficult to clean, plus, she ends up getting her sleep sack and toys all icky. There isn't enough room for her litter box up there, because the level is probably about 5 inches wide. I don't know what I can do; I don't want to put her food up there because knowing her, she'll push it off and make an even bigger mess! Any advice? I also have switched her from her old food that the shelter fed her to Wellness CORE, and plan on maybe transitioning to raw in a while! She goes through her food so slowly and I made the mistake of buying a big bag, so I want to get at least halfway through before we start to switch. Oh, and here are some pics Here she is, eating her first soup (which consisted of kibble, some oil, some ferretone, and water). She really liked it, some variety is probably nice when you're a ferret. She loves to cuddle up on my chest/shoulders. She adores this little pink ball. She likes the other colors too but I find this pink one all over the place, because she constantly has to transport it to new hiding places haha The only time I have ever caught her with her tongue hanging out I think that is all I have for now! Enjoy!!
