As most of you know I lost my beautiful Buffy a few weeks ago due to respiratory disease and pneumonia. It has been a very sad household since then, with 4 grieving ferrets, and her very sad husband Ozzie is not coping very well with his loss.
Today things were about to change. I got a phone call from my local vet, asking me would I like to come and have a look at a lovely little boy that someone found. The lady that bought him in to the vets said she heard something scratching at her screen door, and thought it was a cat, she went to look & got such a shock to find this little ferret knocking on her door. She did a door knock around her area, and could not find his owner, so took him in to the vets.
The vets checked the lost adds etc in the area, and kept him under observation for 3 days to check his health and temperament.
I don't know why they rang me rather than other ferret owners, but I was touched they thought of me first. They also did not know of Buffy's passing, as she was referred to the ferret vets in another town.
I opened the cage door to find the sweetest little sable mit, I picked him up, and he looked straight into my eyes, the look that melts your heart, you know what I mean..
He has the silkiest coat, very clear bright eyes, and very white teeth, a picture of health and we are guessing 6-8 months old. I said I would take him home, and they gave me some kibble for him to eat as I didn't have any at home.
I got him home and put him in the pen with my 4, they all had a quick meet n greet, but then he went over and picked up the meat, and moved to a quiet spot and ate it, then another. Well I was thrilled, he is a raw fed ferret..Poor guy was so hungry after having 3 days on kibble, he was over the moon to have all this meat to eat.
Then we discovered he is in rut now, he scruffed whoever was closest to him, and dragged him aound, dooking madly at the same time. Merlin was not having any of this, so he dug his toes in so he could not drag him, he did put him in his place a few times, but I was surprised how patient Merlin was with him.
After a while they all settled down, and after another big dinner they are all asleep.
He does not have a name yet, I will pick one as I get to know him better..
I truly believe that Buffy has sent this little boy to help us recover,
her beautiful gift to me
