Koda's up to his usual, and this time it's bad! He hopped out of the cage while I was removing some hammocks to be washed and ran into Shane's closet. It took me just a bit to change the hammocks so I did that then grabbed him. Only to find him munching on something! I felt around and couldn't find anything but a jacket so I thought he must have been chewing on the Velcro. About an hour later, he begins hacking. Of course my alerts go on full and I recheck the closet...and find a piece of chewed up chocolate. Dark chocolate go figure. So I'm like well, he's going to be sick, keep an eye on him, but chocolate isn't as toxic for ferrets as it is for dogs so let's watch him. He throws up clear liquid...that's not chocolate. A little later Shane asked if he can toss the chocolate bits (I held onto them in case they were needed for some reason), as he grabs hrm we both look one more time and see a nut skin (like the papery outer layer). I'm like it looks like there was a nut, I REALLY hope he didn't eat a nut!!!! Then Shane's like "I'm pretty sure I know what the candy was..." and we both immdiately go into Oh Sh*t mode. It was one of Shane's favorites candies that he eats a lot - Hershey's Dark Chocolate Treasures...with an almond in the middle. So unless he ate it previously (which is entirely possible considering the number of closet adventures he's snuck into) he ate most of the chocolate and the ENTIRE almond! What I am REALLY hoping is that he's been working on it a while, and that he at least freaking chewed the darn thing! Soo (thank Goodness for Carrs being open 24/7!) I made an emergency 2am trip to Carrs for Vaseline, pumpkin, and sweet potato turkey baby food (best I could find as hurried as I was). I forgot to grab the can opener on the way downstairs so we skipped the pumpkin since the sweet potato baby food is basically the same thing anyways watered down. (works just as well IME). Mixed some baby food and Vaseline up and shoveled it down Koda's throat. You know, it's a good thing we imprinted him on Vaseline early and all... He of course thought this was all great fun (he loves Vaseline). I got a few tablespoons down him and went to bed. This morning there was one poop in the box but I think it was Kenai's considering it was a solid poop. I gave him another tiny lick of the spoon before I left this morning and woke him up to make him go but of course he didn't go before I had to leave. The boys are with Shane today so he can watch Koda - he knows the drill. Everyone please PLEASE keep your fingers crossed that he passes whatever he may have eaten. I have a few thousand $$$$ worth of applications on my plate already and a few hundred in my own medical bills, I simply don't have the $ for another emergency vet trip, ESPECIALLY if it requires surgery again!!!!
