Personally I would never use those cubes for a ferret cage. I have them for my night stand, stereo stand, and play towers in the pet room. But As a cage? No thanks. The zip ties might help some, but it still wouldn't be very sturdy. Making a door that is SECURE will be a royal pain in the @$$, not to mention just putting the darn things together is a ridiculous pain, and then they fall apart too easily...

I use these cubes lined up around the edge of my bed to keep the ferts from going under it. While they work well for things like that, I wouldnt trust making shelves in a cage with them. Some ferts can be rather husky and when they get rambunctious they'd almost certainly break their way out.

Oh yes, I grow me some real moose here in this house. I've seen Murder move some very heavy objects, and I have 2 ferrets more muscular than him. So I've no doubt that they could bust out of a cube cage if they ever wanted to. Chell is going to be one big, strong girl- she could easily top out at 3 lbs in the winter I bet. If she ever realizes how strong she is, she could fight her way to the top position. Luckily for everyone else, she's deaf as a doorknob and as silly as can be. :3

When the cubes are zip tied together they are actually stronger than most cages you can buy. I don't bother with the coroplast bottom because the cage sits on a linoleum floor. Cage strength is certainly not an issue. The only issue I've had is that the smaller ferts may be able to fit through the bars if you don't overlap them.

I have found that's really not a problem... I made a video to show you my doors - please excuse the messy cage, what you can see of it anyway. Also, I use zip ties to hold them together, MUCH sturdier and they don't slip out like the actual connectors do when you move the cage to clean it.
