My ferrets love crochet eggs and they haven't destroyed any yet. HOWEVER... They keep popping them open. That is a pet peeve of mine. I can never get the egg halves back together inside of the crochet thing! So, I like the idea of taping them shut. Although I think what I will try is superglueing the seam shut I am totally gonna get some baby socks and make some of these... But where can I find easter eggs this time of year?

Craft shop...they're expensive at this time of year. Wait until easter then you can get them for pennies. That's what I did ciao

I'll have to try this! I tried to learn how to crochet just to make those eggs but couldn't get the hang of it. They love those eggs but they destroy them to fast.

Ill have to make some of these on a rainy day, my ferrets love the balls with the bells as well but more is always better specially with the amount of hiding places around the house!

Cool, what a great idea! I have to try this! My one baby LOVES this.. big ball that she takes from one side of the house to the other over and over again! I can only imagine what she'd be like if she had this "egg" to play with!!

I made crocheted eggs for my guy, but he has no interest in them I wish he'd play with them, cuz I can whip out a dozen in an hour or so - and I think I have 200 eggs in my classroom that were donated last spring that no one ever plays with!

You should try selling them or even donating them as toys to some shelters. My guys love crochet eggs and wonkeys, but it seems to be as much what's inside making the noise as the toy itself. ciao

I agree- a couple of mine adore them as well. If your's won't play with them offer to donate to a ferret shelter. Ours is always asking people to crochet eggs. I used to but with the arthritis I can't any longer.

I'm going to try this with all of my husband's old socks that I would normally toss out. Great idea, thanks!

I thought about that, but then I also thought that maybe the eggs I have are too big, since Slinks doesn't want to play with them. What size is the most popular with your ferrets? And what is the most popular noise-maker? I used beads, so I can toss them in the wash, but maybe that's what he doesn't like.

The ones I have are pretty much the size of extra large eggs.
