Here are two good articles on adrenal disease. Both are by Dr. Cathy Johnson-Delaney. The first provides a good list of possible symptoms associated with the disease: www.washingtonferret.org/forms/endocrinepam.pdfThe second describes the latest theories on adrenal prevention using lupron. Please note that because both lupron and deslorelin are the same class of drug, the theory (but not the actual implementation/dosing) will apply to either medication. www.washingtonferret.org/Lupron_writeup.htm

Quick note here for neewer ferret owners.......the Deslorelin implants (Suprelorin) are equivalent to lupron. Both belong to the same class of drug, and they work the same way. As such, Deslorelin and lupron CANNOT be used at the same time.
Sometimes. one of these drugs will work well on your ferret, the but other will not. So, if you try lupron and see little results or get a bad reaction, try the Deslorelin next time (Or vice versa)
Melationin, either oral or implant, is a different class of drug. The melatonin CAN be used with either Lupron or Deslorelin.
Any of these medications can affect blood sugar in some ferrets, SO we recommend doing a fasting (3-hour) blood glucose test on "non-insulinomic" ferrets prior to administering any implants (especially Lupron or Deslorelin).
