How much fridge space do the ingredients for your raw diet take up in the fridge? I'm thinking about getting a smaller dorm-sized fridge just for my ferrets. I'm just going to have two ferrets, if that helps.

Fridge is generally just for thawing meals out, so for two ferrets, not much. I use the bottom shelf, but I also have quite a few more ;D It's freezer space that can be a problem for some.

How much freezer space, then? lol. If I buy weekly.

As much as you can! Most of my freezer is dedicated for the kids. (1 ferret, 1 Pit Bull) The most savings you can get on raw meat when you buy in bulk. I am planning to add a second freezer in the near future. I usually only thaw food for about 2 days ahead, so that doesn't take up too much fridge space.

It definately helps when you have a deep freezer, I only have the freezer above my fridge and it's always packed to the brim. There's often not enough room for OUR food!!

I buy monthly, and about 80% of my freezer is ferret-stuff. My kids are on the smaller side and don't eat as much.

I have about 2 month's worth of food in the freezer. It's cram-packed onto a single shelf. Whenever I get my own place, definitely getting a deep freezer and going to buy in bulk, so I can put the cat and dog on raw, too.

About90% of my freezer space (5 of the 6 cubic feet) belongs to the ferrets! definitely get a second ferret only freezer if you can! Frost free too and you can make your own freeze dried treats!

If you get a spare fridge/freezer for the kids -- I'd get the kind with two separate doors. If you don't know what I mean let me know, I'll go take a picture of mine. I find that the fridge is more than enough space for thawing out food for the next day or two, and the freezer space holds enough for at least 1 wk for 3 kids as well as some back-up frozen. It also freezes things much better than the teeny fridges with the tiny freezer drawer inside (if that makes sense). I order in bulk from HareToday for variety (and because I can't reliably find chicken hearts elsewhere) and that food I put in the human freezer because their 5 lb bags are rather long and don't fit as well

My guys, freezer-wise, have their own chest freezer, ha, and they still manage to sneak into the other two freezers (just a few things, usually only what I'll be using that week, since the chest freezer is downstairs and the upstair one is close to counters and sink and all that jazz).

I have 2 chest freezers a 22 cu and a 20 cu. That doesn't include the freezer under the fridge and the bar fridge specifically for the furkids. Then I'm feeding 1 dog (wolfhound), 3 cats and 8 ferrets. I buy in bulk and belong to a coop. So most of my purchases are done by the case. 50lbs minimum ciao

I am looking at smaller freezers. Defrosting a couple days worth in the human fridge should be fine but it sounds like having a seperate ferret fridge would be best.

My mother...ummm..*appreciates it*...when I defrost ferret food in a separate fridge from her food. (I'm still feeding soupies. She says it looks like vomit. I think she's silly.) So if you live with other people who are not a big fan of raw...you very well might find it beneficial to have a separate fridge for them

Ha...my son opened up my freezer to find a whole 12 lbs rabbit fur and all. Prey always gets a rise. My daughter was totally disgusted to find thawing on a plate in the fridge, 4 full sized rats on a plate (they were individually wrapped in plastic bags ) ciao

Raw would no longer be fed in this house!
