Unfortunately, there are very few shelters that can afford to feed a natural diet. I'll try posting on the FML and see what kind of feedback I get with it, just to find out.

just a thought if a lot of members join up maybe you could help more than one shelter ? ( depends on the amount collected over the year ) all those one dollars will soon mount up count me in ( heck it costs me more in postage when I send stuff to the giving tree ! I will still send stuff though lol ) its just I thought sure toys and bedding are needed and gifts are good but a donation like this could save a life ( vets fees food costs )and we are all struggling with the way the economy is but hey 12 dollars over here is less than the cost of two packs of cigs! thanks for posting this mods and sherry take care bye for now Bev

I agree that natural is better but you will probably find that they're few and far between. Most shelters won't even consider raw feeders as possible adoptees. There have been a couple of people on here on board who have had to "hedge" their answers about what they're going to feed. It seems that a lot of the shelters are not very progressive ciao

Would everyone have to? i don't have any type of way to get on a computer. i rarely have cash!!! anyway, there are TONS of shelters throughout the abouts of this forum. i know the GCFA right now has more then 10,000$ in debt for the vet. its so bad!!! So i would LOVE to contribute when i can! if i can so you could pick another shelter that has that much or more!

Not to worry, Stiv's, it's by volunteer basis only and it's only $1 a month. Maybe, if you can afford $1 and then can't afford for another few months then that's ok. We don't want people to just donate the dollar the first month and then disappear but we're also aware that the economics are the sign of the times and sometimes that dollar goes toward your own ferrets care. We figured a dollar most of us could afford that. It's less than a cup of coffee (for me tea ) I'm already a hospice/shelter but my guys want to help give ferrets who don't have a place, who may not be able to get the surgeries or other necessities because their shelter is having trouble making ends meet. ciao

No, everyone does NOT have to contribute What I'll do once everything is set up is to post the account here on the site. That way, whenever anyone has some extra, they can just pop in and transfer whatever amount they want to or can. But the "buck a month" certainly does add up when enough people get together to do it

Happy to help! Even though we're pretty far away... i know the problems with ferrets in rescue is everywhere...
I know you wouldn't pick a rescue from the UK... but i think supporting one who at least attempts a more natural diet as we try to do on this site makes more sense than those that are hard core kibble feeders..

You know, I never thought of the rescues outside the US. I guess because we never hear about them.

There's a stickied link calked "HFF paypal" in ferret talk. Now the big question is- do we do it for the end of this year with whatever may be in the fund, or roll it over to next?

This is a brilliant idea, personally I think we should start at the end of this year with whatever's in there..
has there been a decision yet on how we'll choose a shelter? by vote? will we be nominating shelters that we know?
