For those fo you who feed your ferrets their organs in soup or disguised in other ways, can you please share your recipes My picky girls have decided they are done with organs are won't eat ANY organs, not even the ones they were eating before. I absolutely suck at making raw soup, the girls never seem to like my recipes So if you do feed organ in soup form, if you could please share your recipe (with actual amounts if possible like how much organ to how much other stuff) I would be eternally grateful. The girls switched straight to raw (no raw soup step) so I have no idea how much raw soup with organ in it would equal enough organ for the week either. Thank you kindly!

Puree liver/kidney, add enough water to make it "soupy", then add 1 tsp heavy cream per ferret ;D
***EDITED TO ADD: Adding cream and yogurt is no longer considered acceptable for carnivores. This was an old thread, but is being left to show how knowledge changes over the years.

I feed 4 hearts per week per ferret and 2 ounces of liver per ferret per week, double check those with a mentor-I hear the cream goes over real well, haven't tried it I did the ground meat soups on the switch

Forgot to add- I had to hand feed the organ soupies for about a year before they'd eat any liver on their own ;D

i puree the liver & kidney and mix it with plain greek yogurt - let it sit for at least 40 minutes so it all gets to room temp and the yogurt has time to start working on the organs and then serve.
i also sprinkle on a bit of nupro as i'd always used that with the cooked 'gravy' so, they're all familiar with the smell & taste of it. i just sprinkle that on top and let it moisten a bit before i put the dish down for them.
the three holdouts to raw - chauncey, grizel and taco - would even eat this. all three!! they would really go to town on it, in fact. i still don't understand why none move up to solid meats!

I usually disguise the organs in a plain meat. I puree the organs, then add to plain turkey/chicken/pork. Add eggshell and pumpkin, olive oil (1 tsp) and warm slightly

Thanks guys! I'm thinking the heavy cream is what I'm missing from the mix. I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who has had organ troubles. The girls are being such brats about eating raw soup in general though, that Katt has offered to start us up a mentoring thread just to get them eating raw soup and organs. Little brats... They are lucky they are cute!

Am I missing something here? Why on earth you put heavy cream or yogurt to the soups? Correct me if I m wrong but aren´t milk products so good for ferrets to eat? They can cause healt problems, or I am really missing something here.

Those r old posts. People don't do pumpkin either. They do send wrong messages should people find them. Pumpkin would add sugar and the olive oil would probably make stools runnier, since they will get lose from organs anyway.

They can cause healt problems, or I am really missing something here. You are correct. They are not good for ferrets. These are old posts and as time goes by, we learn and better the ferret diet. So what would be considered good back then, may not necessarily be advised in this day and time. ^^

Water.
If you have some home made bone or meat stock with no veggies or spices added, you can add that.
I made some rabbit bone stock in slowcooker, and then froze them in an ice cube tray and stored them in a freezer bag. It wasn't to add to soupies(did not think of it).

Ok, but what do you use now instead of yougurt or cream to make it more soupie? I don't add anything. Organs don't need anything added for it to get the soupie texture. They contain a lot of water already, so simply puree it or blend the organs together and there you go.

For an organ soup I use: Liver Heart Egg yolk Salmon or olive oil
I stick all the meat in a blender until it's mushy and then I add the egg yolk and salmon oil and blend it a second time.

Those are old posts and dates should always be checked before applying the method. This forum has been refurbed at least twice that I can remember (there was an upgrade as well that threw a monkey wrench into things too) I've been on here since the beginning. It was common several years ago to use both heavy cream and yogurt and pumpkin if you weren't feeding prey. We now know differently. I've never used cream (almost killed a ferret with it), have used yogurt and used pumpkin. Will still occasionally use kefir (goat). As far as an organ mixture....whatever I have to go into the mix. Liver, kidney (easy), lungs (usually rabbit, but only if rabbit isn't already dressed), fetus (again rabbit)along with the uterus. All goes in the blender...add an egg or two but it all become liquid anyway and process. This then goes into a mixture of rmb. Done ciao
