He goes into fits of dancing and chasing you and bites in play and says “khe khe khe” a lot, but is calming down a bit when he’s not riled up. Will lay on my husband if picked up when already tired, won’t with me, he just starts biting me and then leaves the scene to nap circled around the vacuum. We had a heck of a time finding him the first time he did that before we thought to look in the closet with the vacuum in it.

Sounds like Churchill is laughing because he's having so much fun.

He’s been itchy since I first got him, and I don’t know why. I tried him on just Marshall’s kibble, just chicken, and just mice, and no difference. Ear mites were found and he was treated for those, I thought maybe the treatment didn’t work so I started swabbing his ears and dropping 0.1 mL’s of 5% topical ivermectin in each ear every week for a month, no difference, took him back to the vet and the ear mites are all dead and gone so it isn’t that. He’s been on Advantage II kitten for months. I’ve changed detergents. Don’t know what it is, but-
He was diagnosed with a tapeworm normally found in Guinea pigs, and the vet thinks it could be a systemic response to that. Vet took a while to discuss with another vet and then get the medication for that in, it’s injectable praziquantel. He was given 0.6 mL’s of that on Monday, and he’ll have another dose of it on October 3rd. I’m to watch and see if the itchiness subsides any.
He had a bad time Monday afternoon into the night, hiding curled up and farting. I read this was common for the medication, but it was still sad to see. Then he suddenly perked back up after a few hours.

idk how he got a tapeworm, but one of my kats coughed up one that was 8 inches long, and the only way they can get that one is from fleas. Sure enough, a couple days later I found one on Bobo, and the ferrets are never in the grass, so everyone, all kats n ferts got treated for fleas. It's a lot easier to spot them in the ferts than the kats.

It was a private-owned pet shop he came from, and they had him next to the Guinea pigs in open air with just cage bars and a few inches separating them, so it probably traveled by poop particles being flung his way and then put in the mouth. As for how the Guineas got them, I don’t know. I saw your flea tapeworm photo a while ago, it was impressive!

Yesterday and today he isn’t feeling too good, his appetite is low and he’ll only eat his favourite foods, mice and Marshall’s kibble. He left alone both a chicken wing and a cut of rabbit meat. Heart and liver mix is coming up next tonight, I’ll report if he eats those or not. Also having diarrhea. I read up on the side effects of praziquantel and this shouldn’t be effecting him, says they last at most four hours after dosage.

Whatever was wrong with him fixed itself, he’s perky again, ate all his food overnight, this morning, and this afternoon, and is no longer having diarrhea. A mystery bug.

Sad, they’re such little bags of problems. Hope Bobo’s spots turn out to be nothing big.

Just got back from the second deworming injection, discussed that his itchiness didn’t improve any and we’re gonna start giving him 3 mL’s of children’s Benadryl twice a day to see if that improves things.

3 mL’s of Benadryl was too much, he slept ALL day and just now got up. Not scratching himself though! I’ll try half of that tomorrow and see if it’s still effective and doesn’t knock him out. The vet said he’s looking into alternative antihistamines for long term use.

3 mL? I believe we used 0.25 - 0.3 mL depending on weight. I'm hoping that was a typo.

That’s what was recommended, 3mL, a quarter of the human 12.5 mL dose. Stupid vet moment? I haven’t given him any more yet, wanted to wait a day in between to see how quickly the scratching returned. (The next day is the answer)

dang a fert weighs 2% of a human. That dosage was obtained from a couple of my vets and from the Merck Vet manual. I can't find the bookmark since I had to replace my hard drive, and I can't find the reference in the Manual.
Try searching this forum and the website. I'm pretty sure I posted the link and made several posts about using benadryl.
