I just want to thank everyone who’s helped me this far! I’m so glad that this resource exists, it’s made me change my ferret’s diet, health for the better and also gave me a new perspective on many things too..
Anyway, I purchased some duck heads. Like straight up duck head - chopped above the neck. Eyes, beaks everything the whole head. It’s plucked so no feathers.
I was wondering if this is safe for ferrets? I bought it cause I assume the brains, eyes would be good organ meat? The actual head doesn’t seem too meaty... and the tongue isn’t an organ, but I guess it’s also a good change in variety.
Is this safe? I will smash it up before serving if it’s okay, and what about the beak? It’s ‘soft’ as in, i can press into it but it’s pretty firm.
Unrelated note: so freaked out about it! Took me several mins just to pick up the package on the store shelf... don’t know how I’m going to touch it and smash it but I’ll manage..... (I thought the same thing about chicken hearts and necks and liver, I was cringing so hard at first and now I handle it like nothing LOL)

I have not fed that --but if they were around I would give it a try. Heather or some others certainly should know. Trying to find something on internet about it and someone said they chopped the beaks off because they would not eat them---so if this happens that tad of info might be useful. I know one of our members crushed a guinea pig head and fed to her ferrets(Hare Today sells frozen guinea pigs).

I read that too - surprisingly I haven’t found much else about it... as long as there’s no health risk such as broken teeth, diseases (??) choking hazards or whatever then I’m willing to give a shot!

Just take a cleaver to it, to open the skull and expose what brain there is

Hi Sherry is correct and if you are worried about the beak simply take your cleaver to that too ( my guys dont eat the beaks of any birds I get the pleasure of removing those lol ) Bev
