I'm not near my cage right now so I was wondering if someone knew the answer to this. Is it possible to remove the bottom of the cage so it just sits flat on the floor and they can't go under it? I want to rearrange the room but if I put the cage in the corner they will poo under it and cleaning that up everyday is a huge pain. I tried making it a little bed area before with blankets and curtain walls and didnt help. I just want it flat on the ground

I also now just realized that they would be able to climb it so I would put up plexiglass. Ferrets are hard

My hubby wacked the bottom off mine with a sawsaw. My Abbey had an ACL tear and I did not want her climbing the ladder(DIP Abbey). It is sitting on a TV end table like thing I found at the thrift store. I had to take the casters off that or my ferrets would be stashing food under it A sturdy table of some sort will do. Ziptie two ladders together if u need to. I ziptie black corrugated pipe to my ladders because they are just too narrow. I got a Critter Nation with my boy off craigslist, and he and my girl climbed it. I did put plexi-glass on it. I got it that at Lowes. They will cut it. It is somewhat expensive. Oh yeah---I put our bed mattresses on the floor, so the ferrets wouldn't dig thru the bottom nor stash meat under them. Low and behold my Phoebe dug a hole in the side of one of them. She and her side-kick Annabelle crawled around in it. Phoebe is deaf. Thankfully, Annabelle comes when I call her That all I need--- to get their nails stuck in the middle of the mattress or chew foam.

Here is my 181 stripped down of its shelving and wheels. It is the top piece. It is sitting on a section of a FN 142 (ziptied together). Anyway, the bottom section is high enough off the floor on the table that it is not climbed --if you want to forego using plexiglass, u could do that. Going to put tubing on outside to connect the two.

I've never thought of this but I think I can just turn it upside down and screw it to a table or wood box. Right now I just moved it into the middle of the room and no one is using it.. I think because it's not in a shaded corner. Side note. I clipped Bossks nail to short and there was a little blood. It wasn't enough to get blood on anything. I'm just worried about infection or if the other ferrets will think it's food. He's running around the room like normal so he seems fine. Should I be worried? My baby, Cad Bane, gets a little nippy with meat.. and my lip, eyebrow, neck, chin, elbow and once my little toe. Will he go after bossk?

Was thinking of putting 1 level of the 142 plus casters with my 182 and selling the other level of the 142!

When I took off the casters and bottom storage shelf off the 181, there is stlll these prongs. Because of that, you will notice there is a space between the two cages. If you have bottom half of the 182--it is basically the same thing as the 181.

Mine are ziptied together. I am going to cut bars and run drainage pipe along the outside, so my ferrets can access both floors.
Warning about the 142 shelving. I would not let my ferrets get on those shelves until I covered them with the plastic piece that is used on the 182 shelves. My baby got her paw caught underneath that flat sheet. It slides back and forth enough to be dangerous. I heard her cry in pain and I had to prise it up to get her unstuck. There is no way she could have loosed her foot. I am so glad I was home.

My boyfriend picked me up from work tonight so he was gone for an hour and a half and when we got in we saw my girl on top of the cage. They aren't kept in the cage ever. They use it to sleep in sometimes and to poo in. I want it gone. I hate it and now it just seems more dangerous to keep it. I do need a lock up though because I deep clean their room once a month. If I'm home alone I need to lock them up for about 30 mins so I can mop and change the couch cover. My boyfriend will sometimes watch them in our bedroom though.
Is it bad if I remove the cage (I will keep in the storage room) and put a large 1 floor bunny cage I'm there. Then it can go on the floor, I can make it a bed and cover it for darkness. I found one that is 47"x24" and 14" high. It's actually for a guinea pig. I feel like this will be easier for everyone. Or will it be cruel to get rid of the large cage they sometimes use?

If you have a place to store cage I would. They are really durable and you might come up with an idea to make it safe. Why don't you send a pic or website of cage that you are wanting so it can be critiqued for falls. My homemade riggng is 17 inches off the floor, and noone has tried to climb the sides. I took casters off the piece so the ferrets would not stash food under it. I got it at the thrift store--maybe $15.00 Got to adjust the ladder. It is a little over the top. I think it is three ziptied together or maybe just two .

Here is a video how a lady used zipties with plexiglass to prevent her ferret from climbing a ferret nation---I did not watch all of it. Wonder if coroplast would work? (I don't know anything about coroplast---don't know if ferrets would chew it)

My issue is that I need the single ferret nation or critter nation cage but they don't sell them where I live. There is only the double critter nation at PetSmart. I really don't need 2 floors. The top floor has the shelf removed because they kept pooping there and the whole bottom has nothing in it because they poop there. If I had a cage that was on the floor and 1 floor they could make it to the litter box more easily and stop pooping all over the cage. Also if it's short then I can cover the top with wood and carpet and they can climb it all the want.
I was looking at the guinea pig penthouse on PetSmart.CA but I don't think it's sturdy. Lol I'm having such a hard time. I wish I could just get the single FN cage but it would cost me $700 because of a ridiculous price and crazy shipping.

That is really terrible--amazon or ebay with their international shipping??? -Gosh, I really don't know anything about this though.

I'm sad. Lol I went to check Kijiji incase someone had a single cage and I found a double cage and 2 ferrets for $300 and what seemed like a very picky, loving seller. I sent a long email about my ferrets and how hers would be well taken care of and 3 hours later I got a message saying they were adopted. Lol I'm happy they will have a good home but I wanted to snuggle them.
I decided to just wrap the cage in corrugated cardboard and ziptie it. At least until I find a single cage
