If you are feeding each ferret 2oz portions for meals then for the heart meal you would also be giving a 2oz serving

I do something different when serving hearts---I have weighed them before when I first started feeding raw--but now I know about how many hearts my boy will eat at a sitting. I serve him 3-4 hearts sliced. Now sometimes if they are tiny , u may want to add depending on ferret's appetite. Better to have a little left over in my opinion. Anyway if you feed at night, they will clear up plate by morning:)
My group of girls eat together---some ferrets are known to be heart piggies.I cut up 3 hearts each. If it is all gone I will add another or two.
I am no mentor and they may have a better suggestion--but that is how i do it. I hope this helps.

Quick question- is pork hard for ferrets to digest? I've seen this online in a few places. I've been feeding the boys pork neck bones along with the meat attached to the bones, but haven't had any issues. Poos are always normal and no tummy issues that I know of. Is this a myth? Or something that may be prominent if I keep feeding long term?

I feed my ferret pork too. I give him pork riblets chopped up because those bones are big. Obviously the pork bone sure bigger so they most likely won't be eating the entire bone, but they can get some pieces off of it along with the meat.
I think when people talk about pork they usually just give the meat and not the bone.

Happy holidays! + an update! We are almost all out of the commercial raw, I've been trying to wean them onto bone-in items. The pork bones seemed to have been a hit for awhile, but now they just stash them and won't eat them. They used to wait until it was night time to munch on them but they just leave them stashed away until they go bad. I tried a chicken wing again, they did eat some of the meat off of it ( that I cut and made loose ) and stashed away the rest of the wing. I put it back on their plate and they haven't touched it. Even when I put the rest of their food on top. Chicken necks seem like a good bet. I wish I could just order plain old bone to add to their meat LOL. I don't want to rely on ground eggshell or bonemeal. I honestly just need a good butcher knife... They would like something small, with bone in it. They have no problem chewing on the bones from the commercial raw. Hare Today has paused orders until sometime in January, and I'd like to start ASAP. Are there any other good raw websites I can order necks or other bone in products? Other than that, things are good! Howl will forget to eat sometimes, so I have to remind him but they are enjoying most things. I have convinced them on the lamb so the proteins they like now are chicken, turkey, beef, pork, lamb, and duck. They also eat large chunks of meat fine. edit- Howl's once bristle-like, dry coat is now very soft and smooth! Many people in my family have noticed this change!

Read more: holisticferret60.proboards.com/thread/24867/soup-stage-raw?page=5#ixzz5amnpsMqQYou can google Asian stores for your area. I have not visited one that did not carry quail. When I went to Fla on vacation I found them at their Asian stores, so I am thinking it is something they always carry. I cut it up like chicken with scissors. I find kitchen scissors at the grocery store--about 5 bucks. When they get dull, I buy another pair. If guessing correctly, they last about 3-4 mos. I don't know how scissors would do on chicken necks tho. Probably not too good. I cut the chicken wings into 3 pieces and give the dog the wing drumstick. The middle section, you can also cut half. But I can't promise you they will eat it.

Weird update- I noticed the most odd looking poos yesterday. I have been feeding them a lot more bone lately (and more lamb meat?) and one of them (or both couldn't tell) left two strange looking poos. They were HUGE and fat and went from a pale grayish-light brown (not exactly gray, just very light brown but looked gray) into light brown. It looked kind of like a kibble poo. It was the weirdest thing...there stools are usually small, dark and thin. But these were huge!! And very firm. Could this be from the increase of bone or lamb? The poos didn't look like anything on the poo chart, and I was worried since on a webpage I saw that white poos can mean a liver issue or obstruction. They haven't left any since then! And it wasn't white just very pale brown almost gray looking in a spot. Since they haven't left them since then, I will assume all is fine as they are eating/drinking and playing just fine! Was just so weird, I almost did a double take when I saw them since they were so odd. Anyways, everything is going great still. I've got my oldest liking raw egg now, and they both have been eating chopped turkey neck. No issues

kind if werid but sometimes you can tell by their stool the 2 different meats you have fed them. Kind of like how you described yours with 2 different colours. Yes more bone will mean more firm stools. I find I can control my ferret's stools by the amount of bone-in meals I give him. All his morning meals always have bone-in. In the evening I either give him bone-in or a muscle meal or or an organ meal. So I tend to alternate these meals. If he gets too many bone-in meals in a row his stool would be very firm and almost dry. If he has too many muscle meals or organ meals in a row then his stool is too loose. Rach ferret is different to you can monitor their stool to see what works best for your fuzzies.

Hi It could simply be excess of fat in the diet ( ferrets really need fat especially at this time of year when they are laying down fat stores ) once there body is used to regular fatty meats poop should return to normal Bev

Hope everyone is having a great New Year so far! This will probably be my last post under this thread, as my boys are THRIVING on their new diet. My oldest weighs a bit over 3lbs and the youngest, over 2lbs. Thank you all again SO MUCH! For all your help. I have been recommending a raw diet to everyone! And sending them over to this forum. This is my draft for my weekly feed plan for the boys. COMMENTS APPRECIATED! Let me know if I’m missing anything or have incorrect measurements. They both eat about 4oz a day. This plan includes meats from: chicken, beef, lamb, pork, turkey.
Monday AM - Bone in 4oz Monday PM - Gizzards (their favorite muscle meat) 4oz Tuesday AM - Bone in 4oz Tuesday PM - Gizzards or other muscle meat 4oz Wednesday AM- Bone in 4oz + Raw egg yolk Wednesday PM- Heart 4oz (is this too much?) Thursday AM- Bone in 4oz Thursday PM - Gizzards or other muscle meat 4oz Friday AM - Bone in 4oz Friday PM - Heart 2oz + Liver 1oz + Kidney 1oz Saturday AM - Bone in 4oz Saturday PM - Gizzards or other muscle meat 4oz Sunday AM - Bone in 4oz Sunday PM - Kidney 2oz + Liver 2oz
I am really bad with measurements so again please correct me. Thanks again!

Thanks again! This is great!! They say you need to have between 7-9 bone-in meals a week, which you do. By just watching their stools, if you find it's on the loose side then you can always incorporate another 1 or 2 bone-in meals in the evening as well. What I do is put bone-in meals between the organ meals because I know the organ meals can loosen my guy's stool. Your Wednesday heart meal measurement is fine. You still want a 4 oz serving at that meal too. So each ferret is getting 2 oz servings at each meal. If you find all their food is gone from the meal before, then you can bump up the portion size a bit more to 5 oz for both of them (they each get 2 1/2 oz then). If you are finding that there is still a bit of food left over then the portion size is probably good! They say if you have a few bites left then they are getting enough each. Yay!!!

Hello, my 6-month old chubby baby, Started his raw on October the 5th, he loves the soupy, I started to add chunks of chicken and he doesn’t like it, but when I was cutting near him , i notice him licking the liver and heart, trying to bite it, so I started adding chunks of both of them, tiny, tiny. My question today is: 1)After he finishes eating he trembles, shake, shiver for a while. Is this normal?? He looks happy from eating and fine 🤔 His poop looks very brownish almost blackish, it’s very stringy too. Like mucus. Is any of this normal?! 2) when I look at his poop I see white specs of eggshell (a). Am I adding to much powder? (b) am I adding big chunks of eggshells?I try to smash them as much as I can.
