Feed the rabbit over 2 days then one day will have organs one not. As long as they are getting variety elsewhere it's all good

I think it's going to be more than that. These are 5-6lbs rabbits, and while the boys can certainly put it away, I don't think they can eat 40 oz in one sitting.

Good point lol. In that case split it over however many meals necessary. Maybe just do the organs from one as a single meal, and split the rest however you choose.

Sounds good. The rabbit might have to wait until after the holiday when we have time to gut, skin, joint it, and weigh portions out. But I have guinea pig on the menu for dinner tonight.

Guinea pig was demolished. Just a few tufts of fur left. I guess he was yummy.

Guinea pig is apparently a ferret delicacy lol. Which is why we react so badly when people ask about having pet GP's as well as ferrets!

Wahoo! Finally back in town!
Boys are doing well, Hubby thawed a rabbit in the fridge while we were gone, so he's going to cut that up for me today while I'm at work. Then we will see how the boys do. If they do well, I'd love to start working on a menu!

The boys are still eating around 6 - 8oz a meal. So that's the amounts we're working with.
Monday AM: Turkey Necks Monday PM - Whole Prey (Mice, Guinea Pig, Rabbit, Pheasant, or Chicks)
Tuesday AM: Chicken Wings Tuesday PM: Beef
Wednesday AM: Frog Legs Wednesday PM: Hearts
Thursday AM: Turkey Necks Thursday PM: Whole Prey (Mice, Guinea Pig, Rabbit, Pheasant, or Chicks)
Friday AM: Chicken Wings Friday PM: 1/2 Heart + 1/2 Liver
Saturday AM: Frog Legs Saturday PM: Pork
Sunday AM: Whole Prey (Mice, Guinea Pig, Rabbit, Pheasant, or Chicks) Sunday PM: 1/2 Liver + 1/2 Other Organ (Pancreas, Spleen, or Kidneys)
* 1-2 whisked eggs a week depending on shedding * I'm going to rotate the whole prey and other organ options so they always have something different.

Looks good! How comfortable are you with substituting various proteins in their menu? For example if you can't find the frog legs, or heart?

Pretty comfortable. Cow tongue is readily available down here if I get in a pinch, and I'm happy to substitute frog legs for another whole prey meal. There's not a ton of variety for bone in meals on my local stores. A lot of the ethnic meat markets for hit super hard in Harvey and still aren't open yet.

Hey, I know we're graduating out, but I have another question.
The boys have FINALLY slowed down their eating habits. Until I figure out how much food is too much, how long will whole prey stay good for? They're eating parts of the animals and stashing the rest. And there's a significant amount left. I hate wasting that much food.

Do you mean in the fridge or out stashed somewhere? If already stashed, and as you feed twice a day, I'd leave it at least 24 hrs and they don't get fed that night or morning. I believe you can safely leave prey out for about 48 hrs but my guys won't eat it after that point. I find I get about a day and half, after that if what is left over has innards (rat, mouse) I find my guys won't touch it and I might as well toss it. Anyway, why I'm really here lol
Congratulations You've graduated and you're ready to walk this path alone. You have the foundation to help you feed your fuzzes in a more natural and healthy manner. Please remember that your learning never stops, and dietary needs change from ferret to ferret and throughout each their lives. I would like you to be aware that though you now have the capability and the knowledge to create your little ones diets you are never alone and that your mentor (you need only pm) is always available to you. The list is also a very good resource and you should always be aware that it's available to answer any questions you may have either about diet or care. Good luck, in a few days Sherry will lock down this thread and place it in the archives but be aware that you can always look through it as a reference tool but you just will not be able to post to it. Your mentor will be in to congratulate you a few.. Good luck ciao
