She also claimed earlier last year that she'd never feed her ferrets real meat because she doesn't want to make them savage and she has too many other smaller pets that she doesn't want to risk...
I assured her that my ferrets were as friendly as anyone else's and that I probably had twice as many small animals as she has.
But anyway I've digressed into a little rant about how mad she made me for biting my head off for no reason whatsoever.

Well you can't force a person to see your point of view no matter how much evidence you provide. At this point, pushing the issue any farther will just set her more stubbornly in her current ways. Unfortunately the myth that meat will make an animal viscous is rampant one.
As hard as it is to walk away from an animal in need, there's really nothing else you can do at this point. She may someday realize that you were right all along but until then, I'd cut your loses and as you say, just stop talking to her about it.

I spread out my advice over the span of an entire year. Once providing some advice early 2010 (maybe late 2009) and recently providing an even nicer set of advice just now.
I don't think I pushed anything onto her. I wasn't tell her to feed raw or anything... I was just providing a chart of a huge range of food sources which she completely ignored.
I will no longer be speaking to her so I doubt this will ever matter again. Once she snapped at me I explained that her reaction was a little out of line and have cut off all connections with her because of her attitude towards me.

I've got atleast 3 maybe 4 that are 5-ish + and they are all happy as can be run, dook, play, eat up a storm fuzz...I agree with the others it very well could of been insolinoma or some type of cancer.. I'm sorry that your friend (or non-friend) was rude and snappy at you, it's not fair and you only wanted to help her help her fuzz. Unfortunatly there are some people out there that are ALWAYS right no matter how wrong they are and they percieve any help or advice as attacking them and how they tend to their fuzz, other animals, and at times even skin kids...

No, five isn't old. Mine are still working at that age and can put in a long day.
I don't believe that any ferret can be considered old at five. If a poorly bred/ poorly fed/ unhealthy ferret struggles and dies at five it wasn't 'old'- it was just unhealthy and died young.
