Have your other ferrets been sick in any other way during within a similar time frame as olivia? I read your comment about sifting through poop and coughing, etc. There is a systemic corona virus that hits ferrets that can affect the lungs, gut etc. I can result in masses in the abdomen/mesentary along with issues in the lungs. I will look up some info on this and post it (or at least the link). -jennifer Wow, that's really interesting (and scary). My other ferret Sophie is 100% fine, I've never heard her cough, she's never vomitted and her poops are almost always formed. That being said, I know viruses can affect animals differently so who knows? I would love to see the info though, thank you!

Thanks Jennifer, I came across those in my google search too and after reading them again, I really don't think that's what Olivia has. Sophie is perfect. I have never heard her cough, she has never vomitted and her poop is perfectly formed and healthy looking almost all of the time. My girls drink out of the same water dish, steal eachother's half-eaten food, lick oil from the same place and give eachother mouth kisses constantly so really if Olivia had something that contagious, Sophie would have to have at least a mild version of it. Thanks everyone else for the kind wishes! Olivia is doing well today. I did hear her hacking earlier in her tunnel but no vomit as far as I can tell (tunnels are her favourite place to throw up : . Very impatiently waiting for the other vet's thoughts.

I'm really glad to hear that Sophie has been well since the systemic coronavirus is a seriously nasty bug.
Sending ferret prayers and good thoughts to you and Olivia. -jennifer

Thanks everyone Olivia seems to be doing better. I still constantly hear her hacking, and sometimes it goes as far as her sides moving in and out (kind of like dry-heaving in humans I guess). Still no vomit so that's good, though, I suppose. Hopefully we get some answers soon

Just curious....is she an RC ferret? Thinking of that upper respiratory issue that they had. I've never encountered it but... ciao

I'm not sure if she's a RC ferret or not. The tattoos in their ears are actually "H's" (or at least this is what the spay certificiate says they are), the vet has wondered if they are in fact "I"'s but like I said the Spay certificat from the breeder says it's an "H".
I will definitely mention the Mycoplasmosis to the vet, because that's exactly what it is, a hacking cough.
I might try giving Petland a call too to see if I can find out what breeder these guys came from... thanks for mentioning that!
EDIT: the tattoos look like either an H or a sideways I with the bar across the top and bottom, it's not just the straight line "|" that supposidely the RC ferrets tattoo. If the monsters would stay still, I could get a picture.

So Petland is useless and refuses to release the breeder information to me. Of course if it is related to the breeder, it would be covered under the Petland warranty and I could actually get some money to help pay for all of these xrays, so I'm going to call the warranty number and see if I can trick them into releasing the breeder's information to get out of paying the warranty But I looked at the tatoos again and they are definitely "H"'s not "I"'s and I found the paperwork that came with them and this is what it looks like: Front Back (my favourite part is the "we care about you and your new ferret" ... we're just not going to tell you who we are so you can continue to struggle to not know what's wrong with your ferret... ugh! ) Anybody have any ideas what breeder this is? Everything I've read about the Mycoplasmosis says it's just limited to RC ferrets, so if she's not an RC do you think she could still have it??

It is contagious, so if she was at any point contained with RC kits she could have caught it. Also, that paperwork is definitely not RC - RC has a big Canadian flag leaf on it's papers. I have Koda's filed away somewhere...

Thanks Katt! I didn't think she was a RC because her tattoo is definitely not the bar, but now I'm back to the mystery of what she is and I'll never know if she came in contact with a RC ferret in her travels... yahoo talked about the mysterious H breeder being in Manitoba, and isn't that where the RC breeder is too? I'm not sure but I think I read something about that somewhere. I'll definitely mention it to my vet, but I'm not sure how they would even test for Mycoplasmosis, all the info I've read so far says the test is somewhat dangerous and needs to be done by someone really experienced. But then there's still that mysterious thing in her lung, which could also be causing all of this. Ugh, this whole ordeal is making my IBS go crazy. I just want Olivia to be all better

I got that with all my ferrets from the Calgary Petland ;D Including my Marshall's, RC, PV, and private mill I think that's a pet store one. Just double checked a couple from what I know are Marshall's kits. They had the same thing about the "H" in the ear Even though the double dot tattoo is very visible.
