Hi everyone! ( Admin please move this if you'd rather it be in Breeding)
After a couple years away, I was asked by a few to put info on our webcam back up on the Holistic Ferret Forum.
So, here we are ...
We run the cam on VaughnLive and it will be up 24/7 ( minus maintenance and stress reduction lol )
You can find us here!
www.devoncountryferrets.co.uk/nestcam
You'll need to enable Adobe Flash to watch and participate and tech help is available as we have some great friends at Vaughn Live who are friends and the developers are keen to help us out!!
So let me tell you a bit about our girls this year.
For the first time we will have 3 jills delivering this year ( hopefully ) Caly, Monday and Luna. We added an extra jill this year because of some hormonal issues that Luna had last time. She flat out refused to do anything with her kits and we had to give them to Monday, who did a great job raising them. This happens from time to time with first time moms so we'll give her a shot at it again this year but Definitely want a back up to foster if neccessary. This will be MOnday and Luna's final litter before retiring.
So Caly's up first... She is due on the 28th of April and we expect no complications. We're hoping for a mixture of Sandy to Chocolate colors perhaps some mitts and bibs...
at the moment Caly is 3 weeks along... this means she is at this point in developement
Thats about 5mm .. tiny things just now.
When you feel her tummy you can feel several round little bumps to indicate pregnancy.

Weekly Update Time! Today Caly is 4 weeks along ( we hope ) Around this time in the wild, her cousins would be shedding their fur rapidly and using it to line their nests. Here at our house Caly is doing the same. Because she has her babies inside the whelping pen in a nest full of lovely warm fleece she has no need for that padding and now it becomes a risk of fur balls. So when she starts looking a bit scraggly, we help her along by tugging lightly on the now loose hair and undercoat, leaving her a short crop of new fur growing in. Here are a few before and after shots of our Caly's de furring... She will look a little like a raggamuffin for the next day or two but over all much more sleek and cool to get ready for the little ones! Have a peek at her live here and remember i'm always happy to answer any questions you might have. vaughnlive.tv/lorelei0922

she's got a pretty good short coat under there.. probably could have helped her along last week, but she wasn't looking like she needed it quite yet. Last week she would have had a super short coat underneath everything lol

Caly is starting to show a bit.. definitely thick around the the middle and rather solid with it.
So we've moved the cam to her nest box so she can get use to relying on it as her safe place.
For the moment Monday is still keeping her company but we will be moving her toward the end of the week so that Caly can rest and get ready for babies! Sometimes after having company all the time a jill will gt anxious when her friend moves away, so we want her to have time to get use to the idea before the big day...
No reason to expect complications, Caly is looking really well!
On the other end... Monday and Luna are showing early pregnancy signs. Remember they are 2 weeks behind Caly. I have a good feel daily and think that I do indeed feel tiny bumps for both ( its still a bit early ) Mostly this is really important for Luna so that she relaxes at the idea of me checking her own every day ...

I have pretty good success getting the little ones nigh on litter trained by 6-7 weeks so not tooooo many weeks of cleaning up terrible messes.. though still plenty of time on my hands and knees with a scrub brush LOL the light colored litters i should have have NO problem nip training, they pretty much do it themselves with very little fuss. The dark litter however LOL.. we'll see! Invest in Bandaids!!! Exciting times ahead !!

Time here is getting short! Caly is due on the 28th but we could see kits arrive any time now. ( honestly i think she's too settled to go in the next 24-48... but i've been very wrong before lol ) We've seen a few baby kicks on cam and I felt babies move this morning when I had her in my lap... Definitely on our way!!
