Please help! Lately I noticed tiny spots on Scouts chin that are orange/red in color. They are tiny little dots and looks like it's also apart of skin as well. They are flat and aren't bumpy and don't look like living bugs. They also appear around his ear as well, could these be mites? A rash? What is it? I'm concern because it started off small and we didn't think much of it, but now it's more evident on his chin and ear. Here are photos provided (the chin in person is more noticeable and pinkish, but u can still see the tiny dots) The dots in the ears is more accurate as to what appears on his chin as well. What can we do??? i65.tinypic.com/2r3l2r5.jpgi63.tinypic.com/9a1q2v.jpg

It does look to me like they could possibly be mites. In any case a vet would know and help you treat whatever it is or set your mind at ease that it is nothing. I would be making him a vet appt. Heather Sherry katt These guys will be able to answer better then I though.

It appears that it might actually be oil deposits. Consider them similar to acne. It's that time of year. ciao

I was going to say, the colour makes me think oils. So nothing to worry about Mites themselves are white, and it is black coffee groud type wax you find with them.

It's that time of year. ciao Thank you everyone for the replies, I have more photos of the discoloration, today I check and it has spread to his upper lip too... i64.tinypic.com/6hi2xj.jpgi65.tinypic.com/1z221z5.jpgIs it really just acne? What triggers this and what are some preventatives that we can take? Any cure? And is this life threatening with how it looks? Sorry for thousand questions, we appreciate everyone's reply, we just love our little scout and freak out over everything!!

If it is oils it's seasonal. At the beginning of the spring season ferrets go into oil producing overload. There's nothing you can do about it, it is what it is. If your little one was a sable you wouldn't see it. If you're really concerned, take the wee on to the vet to rule out any other issue. We are not vets and we can only tell you what we "think" we see. ciao

Even though they are neutered young, the pituitary still puts out the message that this is the time they should be going into rut, so the body gears up for it. Excess oils is one of the results. To give you an idea, this is what my albino looked like every spring due to oils. In the winter he was snowy white
