For shrimp, it would be treated just the same as your once weekly fish meal, so you could do shrimp or the catfish. As for peeled vs unpeeled, I am not sure if that would count as bone in, I'm leaning towards not. But googling the nutritional value of the shells makes them sound like they have some value to them. Rabbit mice and goat are all ferret friendly foods, and definitely worth adding to his diet! Let me know when you get them, I'm excited for him to try As for an informational post on season change I don't think I've found one yet, but I'll keep looking. A good number to keep in mind is the up to 40% weight gain in winter, and loss in spring. Of course during shedding season it's vital to remember to feed an egg or two per week to help with hair digestion! My weekends been fairly good so far, now I'm just dreading Monday 😂

No, shrimp would not be a bone-in meal. Neither would whole fish - there's really not much substantial bone in fish.

Wow, thanks! I will post the standard questionnaire tomorrow. I can say he will eat gizzards when he didn't before so I use them like a snack. I hope you both have a Marvelous Monday

Yes actually,
What happens if it is a muscle meal night but he hasn't finished his bone-in. When I put him to bed, I gave the rest of his quail and it is still in his dish which means he did not get a muscle meal tonight. Poops still look normal.
And with the seasonal changes, is the weight loss because they don't eat as much? With the quail eaten, he will have had only 2.4 ounces today-- but he hasn't finished it yet.
Getting ready to post the questionnaire. Thank you!!

Ferret's name:BOOGER 2. Ferret's weight: 2.4 3. Ferret has eaten about 2 ounces amount on average per meal. Some days between 2 and 3 and some between 3 and 4 ounces. 4. Stools on various proteins--pretty good, but still poops out some undigested meats- much smaller amounts now. He seems to need all the bone-in meals with no muscle substitutions. 5. Activity levels: great! He runs up and down 13 steps and jumps and plays on the bed and I chase him in and out of the bathroom and play sock with him. 6. Weekly menu: week of April 3 sometimes menu gets modified Sunday am catfish pm half and half-- dk liver, lamb panc. Monday am Ck wing pm Quail Tuesday am Quail pm Quail Wednesday am lamb shoulder/thin bone pm PK HT Thursday am egg, DK wing pm DK wing Friday am FL pm ck ht + duck liver + lamb spleen Saturday am PK riblets pm DK Sunday am CATFISH pm duck liver+lamb spleen Read more: holisticferret60.proboards.com/thread/22735/boogery-boogers-switching-thread-tess?page=3#ixzz4dLt1GlRu

I think I need more bone-in ideas. the only bone I'm sure he's eating is the chicken wings, quail and frog legs. He eats around the riblets mostly though he will eat some of the bone. He eats some of the shoulder shaved bone from lamb which I just happened upon and have only one left. He hasn't eaten duck necks or chicken necks or feet. Not any duck wings lately- wasted a whole wing!
Any suggestions?

One more question- I know pinky mice don't count for much, but what about the larger ones? I love rodents so I don't know if I can do it, but maybe....

Hey sorry I didn't check in yesterday, once I'm back home from work I'll respond to everything! (It's easier on my iPad/laptop than my phone). But to answer your first question yes weight loss is due to appetite drop. After this spring it should be pretty easy for you to recognize and adjust his feeding amounts when the time rolls around. As for now you're back to figuring out how much he wants so there's not as much waste again 😜

Thank you Tessvictoria! Here's another situation. Booger had not eaten all his heart during the night. Checked in about 8:30 and half was still there. I stirred up his egg yolk, added some water and a few drops of salmon oil. I put the leftover heart bowl and the egg bowl side by side in his eating area and came back about 30 minutes later and both bowls were empty! Oddly, he never had an egg poop. He did have a poop with pieces of heart in it. And one poop was lighter than usual so I'm guessing it was the egg making it light tan.

oh, one more thing -- again hahaha
Is it ok to give the same protein for 3 meals in a row? He had Lamb shoulder yesterday and last night he had pk heart then lamb shoulder again and I put him to bed with the rest of the lamb shoulder which I expect he will end up having for breakfast too! If that is not ok, I will give him a different protein.
Thank you!!

as long as poops are still okay, we are all good! its a lot more lenient with the bone/muscle meals than the organ and heart. baahhaa aweee I'm so glad he's such a happy boy! socks are so intoxicating to them lol looks like you have seven different proteins in this current rotation! may i just take a moment to say how AWESOME that is! seriously, you're amazing. variety is good for their mental health, as well as serving meals in a variety of fashions (frozen, room temperature, soup, whole). you're doing soooo well! i couldn't be prouder on how well he is taking everything. Okay so now may be the time to start ordering/buying at your local store the other proteins you were looking at.. Any and all rabbit bones are edible. Riblets are pretty thick, so i don't blame him for eating the meat off. Not all ferrets will eat those. Having three for sure bone in edible proteins is GREAT (chicken, quail, frog). but lets try for the rabbit too. Full size mice are a FANTASTIC addition to the diet. If you decide to include some whole prey into the diet it will slightly alter the meal values per week, but luckily they made a handy dandy chart for that. Check this out: holisticferretforum.com/natural-diet/raw-diet-the-meat-of-the-site/balancing-frankenprey-with-alternative-meals/If this is something you are interested in and looking to add to your diet, I fully support that decision. we can get it all introduced and balanced no problem! I so understand why its a hard decision to make though, they're so cute! Luckily they do sell already culled/frozen ones so the hard part is done. Sounds normal enough to me often I'll leave a meal out and skip their next if they leave a lot. I just adjust my menu accordingly to what they've had that week so far, improvising is allowed as long as you remember to keep it balanced while you're at it. If he had a second meal of left-over heart, just consider it a muscle meal As for no egg poop, it could just be because it was spread out over so much time. Mauser and Catalinas poops never quite look as eggy as I think they should, but poppies are always pure egg afterwards I think its just because mause and cat intake a more moderate level of the egg, where as poppy eats as much of it as she ferrently can. It is acceptable as long as you are keeping your variety up, but I wouldn't suggest it on a regular basis. ferrets forget other foods fast lol!
