Hey everyone , I am strongly considering switching to raw. I love everything about switching my babies to a natural diet (you dont see kibble running around in the wild now...) so I was wondering if anybody has input on how they travel to ferret shows , which are usually all day events , with raw food? How do you keep it chilled ? Also a few other questions are how often do ferrets need to eat when on the raw diet?

Get a cooler and some ice packs and start with the meat frozen. That way it will last for several days. And the great thing is you can always buy more at a grocery store if needed

I feed an AM and a PM meal only. I free-feed though, so in other words, I put food out at one meal and leave the bowls with the food out until the next meal time, so my ferrets can eat from them whenever they want until the next meal, when I swap it out with a fresh meal.
Some days my ferrets will gobble up a big breakfast (almost finish the entire bowl) and not really bother eating until the next meal other than maybe snacking on a stashed meat piece or something. And some days they'll eat smaller amounts at a time and eat from the bowl several times until the next meal time.
Sick ferrets (eg. one that has insulinoma) and kits should really have food available to them at all times.

Your's are spoiled Linda I feed amounts depending on how much they consumed of the previous meal. I leave in whatever they didn't eat(swap out after 24 hours or if REALLY stinky), and just add enough of new meat in to make a full meal!

Well and truly spoiled lol. Mine get fed once a day. Travelling with ferrets is easy enough. A cooler, some ice and you're good to go. I border hop so it's not like I can take meat from one country to the other....they seem to frown on that. Sometimes they will let you (pet's food) but sometimes they will confiscate, so I just don't bother. I just go to the grocery store at the town or city I'm staying in. Their meals might be a bit unbalanced (lack of heart, seems to be the biggest issue) but usually I can find at least chicken. The one time I was down there, there was a snake and reptile show on, you can always get prey at these shows, but if you're concerned check to make sure rodentpro is going to be at the show and they will bring your order. It's just a thought. ciao

Heather, I won't even lie.. they are surely spoiled. But I have their amounts of eating down to a science by now and end up with very, very minimal waste ever. The only actual little bit of waste I might have is from some of the week's evening dinners when it's a FDR/Frozen Commercial night, by the morning whatever was left is all dried and nobody would want it, even with extra water, overall there's usually just about a bite or maybe two left of any other meal. On a day where I do an AM and PM "complete" meal, like the FDR/Frozen, whatever wasn't eaten in the morning meal just gets mixed with the evening meal if it still looks okay. But I do the same as you Sherry with the Frankenprey meals, Athena will also stash a bit of meat to air dry and turn into her own private jerky treats. I suppose if I got to a stage where I could do whole prey, I'd just feed once a day too. The closest they get now is rabbit and duck being bought whole, but I end up cutting that up and portioning out into frankenprey meals, they'd never be able to eat those things whole between just the two of them, even in 48 hours.
