So during the mentoring program we do quizzes and lessons right now I would like to start with the quizzes and we will go from there. If you could answer my questions to the best of your ability without looking anything up. This will help me to make sure you understand everything 1.You have run out of heart, how much taurine supplement should your ferrets get? (be specific) 2.List 2 good sources of taurine. 3.What are some good emergency taurine sources if you run out of heart? 4.Does freezing degrade taurine? Take your time answering these. Don't feel rushed. 💙

Basic guidelines for how long their food lasts Soups - 6-8 hours (for soup recipe, see below) Grinds - 8-12 hours Chunks - 10-24 hours depending on the size (larger chunks last longer) Bone-in meats - 12-24 hours, again depending on the size Whole prey - up to 48 hours (Remember that it also depends on temperatures for most of these. We also recommend doing a sniff test. Usually if it smells alright it is still okay to eat.) Alright so there is the guidelines for you for the summer months. Ferret's love making their own jerky. Usually if they are eating it it is okay. Also that is extremely exciting to hear your little boy eating that! Alright!!! Let's get to the bone in meal. How are you feeling? Have you gotten a cleaver? 💖💖 I am so so sorry for not posting anything at all yesterday... took a turn for the worse... now hubby is battling it :/ hes thinking he will be calling in tomorrow... as for the clever I should be alright to get out and get that tomorrow he is eating liver and heart now to! I gave him his chicken breast and he is just doing so well (will make another post for the quiz answers though im really nervous about it D:)

So he is on the 8 to 1 to 1 ration correct? For every 8 pieces of chicken you are doing a chunk of heart and liver correct?

Alright for 1. You have run out of taurine, how much taurine supplement should your ferrets get? • so first of all a taurine supplement is a powdered taurine you can get online. It is used in emergency situations when you run out of heart. Anyways, ferrets should get 500 MG of taurine a day when it comes to the supplement. Taurine is water soluble and the body only absorbs what it needs. So we recommend using the supplement twice a day. 250 MG in the morning and 250 MG at night. That way the ferret has more of a chance to absorb the amount of taurine they need 2. List two good sources of taurine. • Heart • beef tongue Taurine comes from muscles that work hard constantly. The heart constantly is beating so it is a great source of taurine. A cows tongue is constantly in use to feed themselves so it is high in taurine as well *liver does not have a good source of taurine if at all. It is great for vitamin a, iron and other nutrients and serves a different purpose than heart or tongue 3. What are some good emergency sources of taurine if you run out of heart? • Like I said earlier beef tongue is a great source of taurine and can be a replacement to heart in a new emergency. • The powdered taurine supplement is also a good emergency source of taurine. It should only be used as an emergency. If you truly are having issues finding heart then it is acceptable to use the powdered supplement. We just recommend a natural way of getting taurine vs any kind of processed way. Of course emergencies happen and can be used as such 4. Does freezing degrade taurine? • Actually no freezing does not degrade taurine but heat does You are doing awesome getting your baby transitioned. Keep it up!!

Keep it up!! and I am so glad that you are here to help me thank you soooo much!!! *hugs* ok so beef tongue. now this brings me to another question.. i read you said emergency only for the taurine supplement... but should i get this (well i should have it anyways in case ) and give it to him to make sure he is getting what he needs? he is eating the heart and liver just fine and wow beef tongue! i will look for some of this and freeze it just in case and if i need to swap it out i can before it goes bad. ok so what I read had it wrong then I let my meat thaw at room temp so thats no issue there

If he is eating his heart fine then don't worry about it.
What makes an emergency is like if you literally have no source of taurine anywhere. You store can't get heart in for another month or something along those lines. Then you can supplement with the taurine powder.
*hugs* remember we are a team so don't be afraid to ask any questions 💙💙

Having the supplement on hand can be very beneficial instead of having to wait for it to come in.

Maybe health food stores will when you buy something like that remember to make sure the only ingredient is taurine I am so glad you joined us!!! We love helping switch people's fuzzies over <3 I am so happy to hear he hasn't been itching!! How are his poops looking?

Not sure if it's the only ingredient but it is designed for animals 💖💖 Yup, I feed my ferrets better than I eat. It's a fact when they are raw fed 😂😂 No its okay don't apologize. You are doing a great job! As soon as you get the cleaver cut the wing tip off the wings you bought, and cut the wing tip in 3 pieces to include in his chunks and see how he goes. Ferret's have to learn to eat bone so it might be a little difficult for him chicken gizzards are great for jaw strength
