I count poultry as one meat source (chicken, quail, turkey etc) and other animals as diffrent protien sources. I only know adding calcium helps if you don't have bones so egg shells or I guess a calcium supplement? Gizzards are a muscle meat and are good for cleaning teeth because it's a tough/chewy meat. Dark meats tend to have more nutrition and fats in them. Ferrets use fat as an energy source. Well I would think fatter is better but maybe not to much fat. It gave Nero some weird loose stools when he ate a whole bunch from chicken backs. Ferrets should look like a nice little tube when held up. Pear shaped means a little overweight and if they have a waist line their a little under weight. Can't tell if you'd call that a waist line or a pear shape, not but I'm pretty sure Satan is overweight he's the biggest one. Bear is pretty streamlined if maybe a little bearshaped. Her fluff makes it hard to tell. Near won't stay still for a photo but I'm not sure about him either... Eggs and brushing them help prevent furballs They eat more in winter and less in spring not sure how much more or less though. I think boys eat up to 3 oz and girls 1 or 2? Not sure.

1) Wow, you're pickier then we are All poultry counts as different proteins (except chicken & Cornish game hen which are immature chickens). Organs from different animals don't count towards variety - organs are organs. 2) Eggs shells & human grade bonemeal supplement. 3) Correct. 4) Dark meats are particularly higher in Taurine then light meat. 5) Correct, too much fat will make for some really gross poops. 6) Correct about defining weights. Satan is a little chubbers but with kits this is less important, especially since it is winter as well. As long as he can hustle & bustle he's in good shape Bear is nice little tubesock I've definitely found its boys who are chubbers, rather then females. Although my girl Bear (she's abino), is a bit tubby this winter 😂 Nero looks a little lean, but that may have something to do with not staying still, lol. Weigh him & just keep an eye to make sure he isn't losing weight 7) Correct. 8) They can lose/gain up to 40% of their body weight during seasonal changes. It varies huge ferret to ferret as well. Their changes in eating are equally dramatic. 9) Females on avg eat 1-3oz, and males on avg 3-5oz. Excellent job! They eat well. Friday I will post another lesson.

Their food showed up today while I was at work. Its seems to be just the right amount of frozen to cut and bag it all so that worked out nicely.

4oz beef lung 4oz hearts They didn't eat it all yet so I'm gonna leave it a little longer then give them a whole prey quail sans feathers. It's 8-9oz
What does lung count as? Muscle meat? Organ?

Lung is an organ, but shouldn't be a staple as it is not *as* nutritious as secreting organs (brains, thymus, kidneys, pancreas, etc). But it's still excellent "other" organ. Do you have any questions so far?

No. Heart in terms of a balanced diet is its own category - heart should only ever be replaced by cow tongue or supplement for short periods of time. Heart is extremely important as source of taurine.
Quail heads are bone-in meal.

Just wondered since they have the brain in them and brains are high in taurine and that's why you feed them hearts.

Brains are not high enough in Taurine to be considered a substitute for heart. Which is why brains are considered an "other organ". The only acceptable replacement is beef tongue. Can you post what you plan on feeding this week?

They had pork this morning and I'm defrosting a quail
Sunday Am Pork chop Pm Whole prey quail
Monday Am chicken wings Pm Ground lamb w/ some kind of heart
Tuesday AM rabbit whole prey Pm -
Wednesday Am - Pm rabbit should be gone
Thursday Am ground beef mixed with organs liver and kidney Pm chicken wings
Friday Am mice Pm chicken thighs
Saturday Am try sardines Pm quail
Does that sound ok? Is that enough taurine. I've got a couple whole prey meals mixed in so they'd be getting organs so should I do hearts in the ground instead?

They still had quail left over this morning so I'm just gonna give them the ground lamb with hearts. They haven't been able to come out and play the last couple days because of us redecorating and whatnot. So they probably just aren't hungry.

The organ meal should be hearts instead of ground. Are the sardines frozen? Or canned?.... If they are froze then you're all good The menu looks good & you're babies are eating week, so we can moving to posting 2x/week. (Though you can post as often as you wish). Please ask any questions you may have Wed/Thursday I will post a lesson.
