I will be MIA for a bit with family being here, and then my travels. Will probably pop in for the next week, until departure. Once we depart the ferrets won't be with me so there will be no need to come post. Be back in FULL FORCE come the beginning of March.

Hello! I'm home & settled! Monster and Brandi warmed my heart on my return. Their welcome was more than I could have hoped. THEY MISSED ME! I am ready to begin full force! They ate kibble in my absence, but also ate raw. Bless my hubby's heart; he really wanted to do everything I asked. I have about 10 soup cubes and 10 pounds of various grinds; chicken, pheasant, quail, duck, rabbit, mutton, beef, and pork. Math is not my "thing" so if I could get specific cut suggestions, I'll grab them on my next shopping trip so I am prepared to start with chunks. I'm excited!

Hi Monica, welcome back! It's great that your hubby was trying while you were away, and of course they missed their mommy. I'm sure Brandi and Monster will be ready to start raw full swing too. And that is a wonderful protein variety of grinds to get started on. You got this! As for when you start doing chunks, going for darker meats or slightly fattier cuts are better, not super super fatty though, as too much fat will create weird white poops, chicken thighs are good for chicken, pork you can do pork chops, or if the store has a pack of untreated chunks used for carnitas I grab that since they usually include more of the fattier chunks in it, I haven't tried lamb/mutton myself, and beef I just grab whichever pack looks nice and is on sale since my two are not very fond of beef. For bone-in meals later, as well as cutting off some muscle meat on some, if you can get a pack of whole quail, a whole rabbit, or a whole duck from an Asian market, those work out cheaper buying the whole thing and should last you quite some time (assuming they take well to them, mine love duck and rabbit), chicken wings and chicken/duck/turkey necks work well too for bone-in. Picking up some hearts and liver, plus whatever other organ you want to use eg. kidney, from the Asian store would be cheaper than most grocery stores too, I pay like $2.50 for 2lbs of chicken hearts at the Asian store we go to. The sizes you can cut them into to portion will depend on how well they take to them, some take to bigger sizes very easily, some are stubborn and need them to slowly be increased in size. Have a look at this to help with sizes: holisticferret60.proboards.com/thread/4341/standardized-sizing-etc-meatsWhen I first started off with raw, or when doing new proteins, I cut into a variety of sizes and put them in small labeled 2oz containers (out of my two, at least one will be super stubborn and slowly go from slivers to the chunks in the end). But you can cut and portion the meat any way that works the easiest for you, even if you cut into big chunk pieces you can always cut them smaller if you need to when thawing the meal.

I bet you are ready to start full force! No more distractions looming over head!! I would suggest getting pork chops, boneless chicken thighs, chicken wings, gizzards, beef stew chunks, lamb (arm loin or anything you can find really) salmon is good for them too (once a week for fish though! if they're whole fish they'll count as bone in ) and really whatever different types of meat your store carries are okay!

Also duck and turkey or goose if you can find it. I don't have an asian market near me but I hear they're great for organs and harder to find meats. Otherwise everything else you should be able to find at local groceries and butchers/meat markets
