Either/or, or none of the above Are you still hand feeding them? If so try doing it about an hour after they have been out playing. That way they can work up an appetite. As long as they are getting 2-3oz a day into them, they are good.

Maybe try adding some water to it if you think it may be too thick. There's nothing wrong with doing so. You're doing great!

I have not quite figured out how to "tag" each of you as I've seen done in other posts so will continue doing as I have been doing since you both have been amazing at replying to me Sherry, I have just been placing their bowls in their feeding try. Both were eating on their own. I will, at this evening's meal, try the one-on-one approach again; in my lap with fingers and spoons! Aftershock, I had not even thought about adding water to the thicker soup! DUH! There are only 6 ice cubes of that left in the freezer, and 4 cubes of the chicken breast grind. They are in a Tupperware container so I'll just leave them there. I am just getting ready to begin the new batch of soup that I will make more creamy. I'll also get it weighed in the portions I've been feeding so I can become accustomed to documenting. I plan on getting the photographs done when my husband comes in tonight so he can take the photo while I hold them for the "belly shot". I'm going to try to get them weighed as well. The only documentation I've been doing thus far is this thread so I want to get into the habit prior to being assigned a mentor. I thank you both for your continued encouragement. It sure does help!

If you are on a computer, you can tag us by clicking on the little icon in the tool bar with that looks like a little person with the '@' symbol next to them, then type the name of the person and click on their profile. How deep are their bowls? I find that plates often are less intimidating than bowls for new foods. But keep at it with spoon and finger feeding if they seem to back track! Some times they just need a reminder that they like the food that is being offered. I can't wait to see pictures! You are so very welcome! (shy)

I don't see that symbol in my toolbar :-( It's actually a small dish made by Correlle that is pretty shallow. One might use it for dipping sauces. I bought them specifically for the ferrets! I've taken a photo so will upload it with the other photos I'll take when Phil (hubby) comes in. Finished making the soup. Each portion, measured into the ice cube trays by tablespoon, weighs roughly 26 grams/0.917 oz. Roughly 2 tablespoons make up one cube. It's a bit "sticky" so a tad more, or a tad less, could be in each cube. At least now I'll have a better idea of what they're eating in weight. It will be much easier once it's not in the form of a soup!

Good morning! I was looking at the wrong tool bar! I've got it now and can tag you both!! We had a horrible day yesterday. Had to leave for the vet about 9am with a quick stop at the post office on our way out. Monster stayed at home, with 26 grams of raw soup left for him. Brandi and I went for her 2nd, and last distemper vaccination. We waited to see the Doc for 1.75 hours and then were called to be seen. We didn't get seen by our usual Doc, but one I had seen in and around their office. He was very nice and treated Brandi well. I didn't feel he waited long enough for pre-med to take affect, but what do I know? Gave her the vaccine, we paid our bill, and headed for home. It's about a 50 minute drive. She was acting very strange from the time she came out of the carrier. Like she was hallucinating; Walking in circles backward, uncontrollable shaking, spastic head nods... It was AWFUL! Took a couple of short videos and sent them to a friend who has much experience with ferrets, as well as with our vet. She called me immediately and said it was a reaction to the vaccination. Advised me to try to get her to eat some soup, drink some water, and give her some children's benedryl (which I do not have, but am making a list to shop for today). She also said to call the vet and learn exactly what it was that was given for the distemper (Nobivac). So I got her to eat a bit of soup; some made from kibble as she wouldn't touch the raw & mostly she took in the more liquidy portion & stopped when she got to the thicker that had settled to the bottom of the small bowl. Called the vet to ask questions and they said "bring her back". Packed her up and back to the vet we went. They took her right in and I sat in the waiting room. Doc came out and said they were giving her some fluids and wanted to watch her; they wanted to keep her overnight, but I was very reluctant to leave her so they said they would watch her for an hour. Once during this time Doc came, chart in hand, to speak with me in the waiting room and asked me "why did we give her rabies today when she had her rabies on 12/5/16?" I told him she was not scheduled for rabies, but only for her 2nd part of the distemper, the 1st part given on 12/27/16. I then asked him what that would do to her as it sounded like an overdose to me! He said this is probably why she was having a reaction, but that it would most likely be fine. When the hour of observation had passed she stopped most of her "symptoms" that I described above, but still wasn't quite right - she behaved like she was looking for something she was never finding; couldn't relax. She was walking straight lines and seemed very happy to see me when I was taken back to where she was. Doc gave her benedryl & dexamethasone and we headed back home again. I was planning to, and did, stay with her (slept on the floor in our bedroom and closed her in their with me) through the night. I made sure she ate and drank each time she woke; She did rest some, maybe for an hour before she would be up and pacing again for about 15 minutes before she would head to her bed bucket and rest again. Her poops are a bit funky, but no blood. No vomiting either. I read she could have some funky poo from the stress she was experiencing so I am not too worried, and will continue to monitor her poo. She seems a little better this morning, though still not quite right. What a mess of a day! Monster is showing great concern for her. Following her and sniffing at her more than normal, he has even nudged her with his nose quite a few times. Back to food - The 26 grams of soup left for Monster was gone when we came home the first time, about 1:30pm. Home about 5:30pm the 2nd time and prepared 52 grams of soup for Monster; I wanted to see if there would be any leftovers. He didn't eat right away, just sniffed, took a couple of licks, and then walked away. As we were preparing for bed for the night, about 8:30pm, he ate the entire bowl! 52 grams was prepared for breakfast. He hasn't eaten the whole amount yet, but did lap up quite a bit. It will sit down to see if he'll go back to finish. Brandi is still showing no interest in the raw this morning, not even from my finger. Because I need her to eat, I did make the soup from kibble (Dr. T's Amazing Friskies Soopie Mix - are you familiar with that? A lady named Susan Baker who runs a "hospice" shelter in east Texas makes & sells it - it was gifted to us from Susan Jones, the PickledFerrets Pickle Juice lady) and, again, she is lapping up the more liquidy portion and stopping when she gets to the settled, thicker portion. I'll try with raw again in a couple of hours. She just went to rest again when I started this. By the way, Monster has absolutely no interest in the Dr. T's soup, never has. I am praying for a calm, restful day here in our home today. Poor Brandi. I feel just horrible that she has to go through this, and for Monster that he doesn't know what's going on, but does know something isn't right.

That was one h*ll of a bad mistake on the part of the vet clinic. I'd be raising h*ll with them. She should never be vaxxed again by the way. Next time her reaction will be severe. For now until she is fully recovered give her what she will eat. In 2 or 3 days you can start with her again. Also in the interim spoon feed her. That way you can keep mixing it up so she can't just take the liquid. For Monster keep thickening his until it is a wet ground consistency, and then you will start adding in slivers of meat.

Oh my gosh! I'm so sorry to hear that! I second Sherry, I'd be on a ramage! I also second not getting her vaccinated ever again. That poor girly. But, on the upside, way to go Monster! We don't have an emergency kit list put together yet (forever updating infomation), but try this link: (a bit of the info here is outdated, but Step 5 should be what you are looking for): holisticferretforum.com/care-and-enrichment/emergency-preparedness/

Also meant to add, if you are like me and too lazy to go to the regular response and want to tag them, hover your cursor over the name in the profile at the side of the page to bring up their user name, and put an @ right in front of the name If I do that with your profile name I see "hugs". So I would put the @ symbol in front of the name hugs to get @hugs

Sherry, I will spoon feed Brandi at next feeding. She's just gotten up so heading to the kitchen in 2. For Monster will continue to thicken, although last thicker batch he would just leave. Wouldn't even take it from my lap. Turd! In search of a new vet. Closest to me, from the listing here, is El Paso - 4 hours one way. There used to be one listed in Carlsbad, NM, but it's no longer on the list so I'm thinking maybe retired. Not giving up though. Neither of my two will ever be vaccinated again! That was the scariest thing I've dealt with yet!

Sherry Thanks for the quick tip on tagging! Aftershock Thanks for the link to emergency preparedness. After yesterday I want to be prepared for any situation I possibly can. Gathered a basic list from a FB post that Katt had replied to as well.

Spoon feeding Brandi the soup has worked well. She's eaten 3 times in the last 5 hours, probably close to 1/4 cup total. Getting the ground kibble, as well as the broth now. Wish she's eat the Raw, but not pushing her with all the stress she dealt with yesterday. She's still not herself. I am continuing to monitor her. Haha! Like I know what to look for! Well, at least I know how she behaved before yesterday...
