Hey Everyone, Well, my ferrets have been needing a bigger cage for quite a while, they just don't have enough room in there. At the moment, buying a brand new beautiful FN cage is out of the picture (although, I am saving). So, I was looking around to possibly build my own, even like this cage built from Organize-Its from Target . Sadly, I am 99% sure they don't make those anymore and I've been looking like crazy for something like it, but have found nothing. Do you guys have any ideas for what I could use to build one? I've also seen a cage made of a bookshelf, it looked promising too! I should add a picture. Anyway, it would be wonderful to get some suggestions on this, thank you!

I attempted to build that cage when I first got mine, it was horrendous, for me anyways. I think it was because I still had little ones and they could wiggle themselves out, even when I have the grids double layered. It didn't seem sturdy to me, but I think if I used a bit more zip ties it would have been okay. I'm sure if you build it more securely it can be a lot better than what I had. I didn't feel comfortable with what I had and ended up replacing it with an FN a week after. I used 2 orders of www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000LRBSFI it wasn't enough to make what they have pictured in the video. So I suggest getting a 3rd box. (excuse the messy dresser.)

Synu, thank you! I never even thought of looking on Amazon. I will most likely have to double the wiring for mine also, those stinkers I'll see what I can do about it being more sturdy, I really appreciate it! Sherry- thank you, I'll check these out

I really wanted to build one too, rather than get the FN cage. Ended up buying it anyhow since I live with family and have no place whatsoever to build it; also no tools. Have you looked at building a hutch like they make for bunnies? If you are really handy you can build it with the same type of barn door opening and slide out floors like the FN's have. They can get quite creative and adorable. www.google.ca/search?hl=en&rlz=1C1GPCK_enCA429CA429&biw=1366&bih=643&tbm=isch&sa=1&q=rabbit+hutch&oq=rabbit+hutch&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&gs_sm=e&gs_upl=15577l20498l0l25l5l0l0l0l1l768l1670l0.1.1.0.1.0.1The little organizer cube thing is ok, but doesn't look so sturdy to me. You'd end up spending alot in those anyhow, since you have to double up those panels. That's what stopped me, anyhow. Good luck, and please post pics of your creation PS. I saw the bookshelf ones, too, they look pretty nifty. I just worry about them falling over, and that they don't really get that much more space than a small cage. Maybe if you put two together depth-wise you could come up with something neat.

Honestly... take whatever money you're about to spend on materials and put it in the FN fund. A 141/181 would be okay for three ferrets and you can find it online for under $150. Homemade projects often end up costing more, bit by bit, and in my experience are just one frustrating challenge after another!

Also, keep a really close eye on things like CL, or kijiji if you have that in your area.
