Would it be okay to feed almost exclusively ground meats? With a chicken neck or wing every now and then for their teeth? I've been looking to see if there are any premade raw diets around the same price as my kibble ($25 for 5lbs). The meats in question would be from hare today, so different proteins and some grinds with organs and bone in. Does anybody know if these are balanced as far as organ and bone goes? And if this diet would work, how many should I get with/without the bone and organs? This just seems like a better option than kibble to me and it's around the same price! (it's actually cheaper before shipping but after is about $1 more per pound) If this will work, I'll post what I have in my cart right now and we could adjust proteins/organs edit: I believe the correct term for this is commercial grinds? lol sorry if I'm not making sense

Commercial grinds are a good, simple method of feeding a balanced diet without having to work too hard at it lol. The same theories apply....minimum of 3 proteins. Some of haretoday's products are balanced, but not all so you will have to do some research into their products. I was reading through their products the other day. ciao

Awesome Is there such thing as too many proteins? lol so far in my cart I have: Ground Pork/Bones/Organs, 1 lb, Fine Ground (82% meat 15% bone 3% organ [liver and kidney ]) Ground Chicken/Bones/Organs, 3 lb, Coarse Ground (68% meat 27% bone 5% organ [liver]) Whole Carcass Ground Rabbit- Fur and All, 1 lb, Fine Ground Ground/Beef/Organs/TripBone-1lb (80% meat, 7% tripe, 7% organs [heart, liver, lung and kidneys] and 6% bone) Boneless Ground Turkey Thigh-1lb Chicken Necks, 2 lbs Ground Mutton/Bones/Organs, 1 lb, Fine Ground (73% meat 17% bone 10% organ [liver, pancreas, kidney]) I added the mutton after taking off 1lb of fine ground chicken because it seemed a little chicken heavy? Which of these sound balanced? sorry, I have no idea what % bone and organ should be

Never too many proteins :goodjob: . Consider it this way....the more proteins you try and get them to successfully eat, the more likely they will eat any protein put to them. This means that if you change supplier that they will continue to eat that food because they're so well tested on various proteins Ok, the one thing that jumps out at me is the lack of heart. I would suggest if you go with this supplier to perhaps consider adding a heart meal. It may be simply that it was missed in the listing but as taurine is so important for heart and brain health in cats and ferrets that is my major concern. Each of the grinds I believe are whole animal grinds which is why you're getting a variance in bone to meat ratios. If you feed this variety, then you're going to cover all their needs (except the heart, which I don't understand > ) ciao

^Oh sorry! I forgot to include that heart, tripe, and lung are in some of them (heart on all the ones I've checked). So I suppose they are counted under the meat percentage. So should I get some of those as bonelesss/organless? Or will they be okay eating organs and bones every meal? Here's a link to one of the products: hare-today.com/product/raw_pet_food/ground_muttonbonesorgans_1_lb_fine_ground

Also, can anybody give me an estimate of how much food I should order for 3-4 weeks? I have two 2.5-3lb gibs and a ~1.5 sprite. How much would they eat daily, approximately? I'm thinking I need a mentor but I don't have the food yet

Just as a ballpark estimate, you're probably looking around needing around 8-12 ounces of meat per day to feed your three. But since there's a lengthy wait for mail ordered food to be delivered to you, you'll want to overestimate how much food you need in case you need more. You can use a scale (ie. kitchen/postal scale) to determine how much food is eaten (weight of food dish before feeding minus the weight of food dish with leftovers at next meal time). This will help you track how much they're eating, otherwise you can estimate by how much appears to be left over and adjust meal portion sizes accordingly so that they don't run completely out of food between meals. This way you know that if they went hungry, it's just because they're being stubborn instead of not having enough to eat.

We actually adopted another sprite today She is 2 years old and weighs 1.5 lbs. So I'm expecting 12-14 ounces a day now? maybe? haha

I would also take a look at mypetcarnivore as well. And if you ever decide to try whole prey, rodentpro. Hare today has small mice and baby rat pups too. Asian markets locally should have frozen 6 packs of Quail to blend or chop up. I recommend getting a deep freezer just for them Don't forget duck hearts / chicken / turkey hearts too! Mine like duck heartd the best out of those

Both mypetcarnivore and hare-today should have them. Sometimes Asian markets do too
