Gator took to the turkey neck like a champ, Croc sniffed it, licked it, and walked away to go sleep. That's normal though, normally when I put them back in the cage so they can go back to bed Gator will eat and Croc will pass out. He sniffed it and licked at it, so I assume he will chew on it later. I will keep an eye on him though. So I checked back in on them and now Croc is going to town on it. I'm so proud of these boys.

Hee hee, I'm a spoiled ferrent with such adaptable boys (unless it comes to litter boxes with Croc, but he's getting there ) Not yet, there was one guy I was waiting for a call back from on duck, quail, and rabbit, and I'm waiting to hear back from my friend's friend on just the rabbits.

Update on their menu for the last few days? Are they still eating their turkey necks with gusto?

Thursday am- 6.2 TN, 1.3 left pm- CGH 7.3, 3.7 left Friday am- 10.9 pork T-bone, 3.2 left (left mostly frozen) pm- CGH 7.4, 0.1 left Saturday am- 6.2 1/2 heart 1/2 liver, 2.8 left pm- 6.5 TN, 1.1 left Sunday am- 4.8 liver, 0 left pm- 11.8 CGH, 2.3 leftSo yesterday I did a smaller liver portion (I gave them 6oz two weeks ago, they left 3oz. I gave them 5.1 last week, they left .3. They have always turned their noses up to it when I put it in the cage and will just munch on it throughout the day.) because they haven't cared for it much by itself in the past, I was shocked that they ate all of it and acted like they were still hungry. Seriously, they shrug it off. I offered it mostly frozen to see what they would do with it and they attacked it. They didn't act starving when I woke them up yesterday morning, they just seem to hardcore attack the mostly frozen items I put in there now that I think about it. I'm trying to get the hang of what they are eating, but it's almost like it just depends on the day with them. Is it just because they are getting older and transitioning? On another note, I think turkey necks have turned into their favorite. And I did a little test, the first day I gave them turkey necks and smashed and cut them, (broke my meat scissors) and they still ate around most of the bones, I gave them a turkey neck I didn't mess with Saturday night and they ate more bone than when I crushed it.

Ferrets do indeed eat less after the initial transition. At first they eat and eat, as they are catching up on missing nutrients and the new food is much more delicious & exciting. They also eat less as they grow up, kits are little black holes that you just shovel food into endlessly, lol. Around 5 months they start to slow down to more reasonable amounts. They also eat less in the summer - as much as 40% less. Ferrets also have favorites. If I'm feeding duck neck my crew will eat 13 oz, but if it's chicken neck they will only eat 10oz. And if it's rabbit they will easily devour a pound. As long as they aren't eating dramatically different portions across proteins, it's not a problem. It can also depend on consistency. Bigger chunks they will lolligag & drag around "mawm, i haz to werk for mah fuds!", If it's grinds they are on it like white on rice. It's great they love Turkey necks, and eat them with gusto when they are not chopped/smashed. Less work for you, and awesome mental & physical exercise for them. You're doing a fantastic job! Have you heard back on some of the rabbits, quail etc?

Sorry for the late response, playing phone tag with people trying to make moving happen. The soon to be landlord called me the other day and mentioned that we could move in pretty much right now if we want, he just needs to call my husband's place of work, and our current landlord (who loves me and doesn't want me to leave, but also doesn't know I have ferrets.... so this is making me nervous.). Part of the reason why we want to move is so we don't have to hide the boys. (Our apartment complex lease says 'No pets. At all.' but everyone has at least two. ) That makes me feel better though, I was getting a little worried because how much they are eating isn't as consistent as I thought it should be. Have I told you that you crack me up? The fresh rabbits are gonna be about a month, and I tried calling the other guy yesterday and he hasn't gotten back to me yet, so I will call again today. So much to do, so little time.

If you need a few days to get life in order - no problem! We all get busy at times, and Croc & Gator are doing great I feel ya with hiding the ferrets. I say I have ferrets... never how many. 2...6 who's gonna notice Yummy, fresh bunny. It's a good thing Croc & Gator don't know something good there way comes. Other wise they'd never stop bugging you "bunny day now?" "No." "Bunny day now?" "It's literally been two minutes".

Other wise they'd never stop bugging you "bunny day now?" "No." "Bunny day now?" "It's literally been two minutes". Thank you! We signed on the new place tonight so we will be moving for the next couple of days! The hiding thing bothers me, I don't like to lie, but it's frustrating that everyone gets to bend the rule with emotional service animals that have no manners. The new landlord was told about them upfront and even asked what I would do if he said no to the ferrets. I told him I'd find another place, I'm not getting rid of them. We are gonna put some plastic flooring down in their room and up the walls a ways for the sake of the landlord. The poor guy is a bit scared that the boys are gonna be super smelly or tear something up because I want to plastic the floor. It's just a fail safe. Gator is a perfect little litter box user while Croc is still getting the hang of it out of the cage. I want a business of ferrets but Trevor told me no! I bet people are shocked when they actually learn how many you have and how they are nothing like they thought ferrets were! Do you think when I get the bunny that I should try offering it right after it's been killed? Do you think the warmth would make a difference to them trying it? I tried offering Petco hoppers once and they refused to even try them so I can't decide on offering it whole and fuzzy first or skinning it.

Freeze it a few days first to be safe. There are many ways to introduce a new protein, and if needs be you can even go as far as going back to soupies and treating it like a new switch (but instead of going I how to raw you're going say, chicken to mouse lol). Rabbit is a GREAT protein and a wonderful bone source. I'm glad you found some!

I have moved more times than I can count and it is a PAIN. I hate it. I'm glad the boys are settling in well and enjoying the new place. Have you gotten the rabbit yet or is that still in progress?
