hmmm. I went to feed kinga and misio their dinner meal, and neither of them wanted to eat. :// they're a bit more lethargic than usual too. what does it look like when ferrets react badly to a meat/etc.?
however I did leave the egg out for a couple hours so they could eat when they liked . . . could that be why they weren't as hungry?? misio eventually ate a couple mouthfuls but then decided to curl back up in his sleeping place.
is this behavior normal?
they were eating chicken wings, and I couldn't even get kinga to eat one little piece. it was as if all the work I'd done had been taken away. I mean I know she'd eaten chicken before! (and chicken/cornish hen wings!) I'm so confused.

THey will get the hang of eggs, I leave mine out for up to 12 hours sometimes but they eat it long before that. My house also t ends to be cold so that helps. Feet are considered a snack not a meal.

Winter time makes them sleepy and less active and giving them the egg does fill them up also so they will eat less. Keep an eye on them though and let me know how they do tomorrow

yeah, the egg must've filled them up, because they were fine the days after the egg!
I'm still ... kinda struggling with moving to the weekly menu and packaging my meat for it, and my mom is struggling against me too, not wanting to do it, and not wanting to get bulk meat but I'm fighting against both these things. I've made an order on a website for meat and hopefully this weekend will have a plan made up for the week.
where does the egg fit into the weekly menu?

I usually feed the egg wuth my muscle meal. I'm sure after your order comes in you won't have much of an issue because it is easier to store them pre packaged then it is in bulk.

ahhh!! ok I need to tell you everything because I'm so proud of myself, haha. (giggle) I canceled my order because it was still unfulfilled after a week, and I found some good local deals that were better. I got 8 packs of 3-4 turkey necks from that dude I talked about earlier (I couldn't believe how much he had for me! omg I should've specified, haha). and it was only $14! I also found brains at a local butchers and he said they'd have it all year round. so on Saturday I got a friend to help me cut the stuff up for an hour, and we got the chicken wings and muscle meats packaged, and then I had to stop for the day, because doing this with my illnesses & chronic pain isn't easy but on Sunday, my mom got up earlier than I did and got to work on those turkey necks (and hoooo boy, is there an easier way to chop them up? they're so difficult!), and we managed to get 2 packages done before we were pooped with that (we have chicken bone scissors; is there something better?), and then moved on to other stuff, and wow, I managed to finish all the meat today!! I wish I could sleep for 800 years now, but I've got a busy week ahead * I just hope that because we cut up a ton this weekend that we'll be set at least for a couple weeks. I'm excited to see how the little boogers do on the weekly plan, and how they'll deal with brains, haha. eeeek.

(giggle) Nice work! For the necks it is best to invest in a good cleaver. I use Hare Today and Rodent pro for my online orders, both only ship out on specific days of the week so if you order adfter that day you will feel like you are waiting forever before delivery. I can;t beat the variety though so I just make sure to plan accordingly.

ahhh, a cleaver! I'll have to get me a good one of those.
so . . . so far things are pretty good? except I'm worried they aren't getting enough organ meat. they kinda turn their noses up at it (and I mean I really don't blame them), even when I drip a tiny bit of salmon oil on top. I mean, they eat a little bit, but not as much as they eat other meals. do you have any tips?

You are doing a great job so far yes! As far as the organ meals go, are they leaving the majority of the meal or just a little more then usual?

it's mostly the organ mix, to be more specific. and they'e barely touching it. I have to "spice it up" with salmon oil before they even take a few bites.

Using the salmon oil for this is fine. Try spoon feeding them it without the oil. They like it when you feed them lol. Some days it is the only time Loki eats, the brat.

haha! little babies. yeah sometimes it's definitely easier when I spoon-feed them. it's good to know they sometimes still are pouty & stuff even well into their raw-feeding, so I can recognize that. sometimes, though, they still won't eat much. but last time, they ate better when it came to the organs. (apparently, they like the brain more - but watching them slurp it up is . . . something else. ) I'll keep pushing them! I bought anchovies at an Asian grocery store in a nearby town, and Kinga took a tentative lick and screwed up her face (and made me bust out laughing!), and didn't want to take another taste, unless it was licking salmon oil off them. Misio just licked the oil off, too. I even tried spoon/hand-feeding them too, but nope! they wanted nothing to do with it. do they usually have this much trouble with starting on fish?

I think it's the scales on the fish. I found grinds with whole fish are better accepted. Loki is actually only about 6 months into the raw feeding. He is a rescue with insuloma and often does not eat on his own. * Makes it really hard to keep his blood sugar stable. He may have gotten spoiled a bit because of this. You are doing great. If you post a menu, I can see how close you are to graduating.

haha, my mom: "well what are we gonna do with all these anchovies?!"
(giggle)
graduation! omg! that's exciting. I never thought I'd get this far when I started, haha. it's amazing how confident I've become with raw feeding since then. thank you so much! ok, but menu time:
Monday am: chicken wings Monday pm: turkey necks
Tuesday am: turkey necks Tuesday pm: beef + egg
Wednesday am: chicken wings Wednesday pm: beef heart
Thursday am: turkey necks Thursday pm: pork
Friday am: chicken wings Friday pm: 1/2 beef heart + 1/4 beef liver + 1/4 pork brain
Saturday am: turkey necks Saturday pm: pork
Sunday am: cornish hen Sunday pm: 1/2 beef liver + 1/2 pork brain
so this is just with the meat I have on hand, but i intend to order from one of the online stores so I can get more variety. (I'm also going to get some ground fish, haha)
also, I am interested in feeding whole prey (not live prey though . . . ), but am unsure how to go about it. is this something you could help me with before sending me on my way?

Of course I can help you with that! Rodent pro is where I get my rats, mice, guinea pigs and quail from. I also get chicks from there for a rare treat for them. Hare Today also sells whole prey but it is more expensive there. Menu looks good, it would be great to see some whole prey items in it before graduation though! Quick go order! lol
